DWTS’ Jenna Johnson Shares Her 2-Year-Old Son Rome Was Hospitalized

Jenna Johnson’s little one is waltzing towards recovery.

Professional dancer Jenna Johnson revealed that her two-year-old son, Rome, is recovering after a night at the hospital. Her husband, Val Chmerkovskiy, is with her as they care for him.

Jenna, 31, shared on Instagram Stories that everything is okay now, thankfully, with her son Rome safely asleep at home. She described a scary night before, posting a photo of Rome wearing an oxygen mask while her partner tried to distract him with cartoons. She prefaced the post by saying, ‘But this was our night last night.’

Jenna didn’t share why Rome was in the hospital, but she’s grateful her husband stayed with him. Even though Val, 39, and his dance partner, Alix Earle, 24, had a *Dancing with the Stars* rehearsal planned for the next day, he still made sure to be there for Rome.

She shared a video of Val hugging Rome in the hospital, calling him their “absolute rock.” She praised his calm demeanor during a difficult time, noting he never complained about being tired or lacking sleep before a performance, always prioritizing their baby and her well-being. She expressed immense gratitude for having him in her life.

Rome has experienced health issues before. Last May, his mother, Jenna, mentioned he had a difficult night with a sudden coughing fit. She later posted a picture on Instagram of Rome receiving oxygen in an ambulance, letting fans know he was getting the care he needed.

And after a few hours of rest, her son was back in good spirits.

Jenna shared an update on her son, Rome, saying, “Thank you for all the well wishes!” Rome had a bad case of croup, which was really scary for everyone, but he’s thankfully feeling much better after a visit to the doctor.

After noticing she looked “puffier” and facing criticism online, doctors began commenting on interviews, suggesting she might have Cushing syndrome – a condition often linked to high cortisol levels or steroid injections. This prompted Amy to realize she’d been receiving steroid injections after a breast reduction and C-section. She later learned she had a form of Cushing syndrome that would resolve on its own, which she called “the greatest news imaginable.” She shared this relief in a February 2024 newsletter, thankful to be healthy.

In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a frightening health scare while having breakfast with her husband, Justin Bieber. She suddenly began to have stroke-like symptoms, struggling to speak and noticing her face drooping. Although the symptoms briefly subsided, she went to the hospital for evaluation. Doctors discovered she had a small blood clot in her brain, which they identified as a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack). Further testing at UCLA revealed Hailey had a hole in her heart, called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). This hole allowed the blood clot to travel to her brain, causing the TIA. Hailey has since undergone a successful procedure to close the hole in her heart and is now recovering well.

The same year Hailey faced a health issue, Justin also experienced one. In June 2022, he revealed he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a condition that caused temporary paralysis on one side of his face. This forced him to cancel the remaining dates of his Justice World Tour.

In a video posted to Instagram, Justin explained the virus affected nerves in his ear and face, preventing him from blinking, smiling, or moving his nostril on the affected side. He also shared it had become increasingly difficult to eat.

Fortunately, the paralysis eventually went away. Hailey shared on *Good Morning America* that Justin was recovering well and feeling much better, adding that they were grateful he was going to be okay. It had been a scary and unexpected situation, but he was expected to make a full recovery.

In his 2024 Netflix special, *What Had Happened Was…*, Foxx explained that he suffered a severe headache one day while in Atlanta. He asked for aspirin, but lost consciousness before he could take it, and doesn’t remember the next 20 days.

He initially saw a doctor who gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home, but his sister, Deidra Dixon, was concerned and took him to the hospital. There, doctors discovered he had a brain bleed that led to a stroke.

Twenty days after surgery, Foxx woke up on May 4th in a wheelchair, unable to walk. He then went to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy. He expressed his gratitude for the prayers he received, saying, “I needed every prayer.”

While filming the show, she experienced a sudden, severe headache while at the gym. She described collapsing and being violently ill, realizing something was seriously wrong with her brain.

After being taken to the hospital for a brain scan, she was diagnosed with a subarachnoid hemorrhage – a life-threatening stroke caused by bleeding around the brain. It was discovered she had an aneurysm, a burst blood vessel in her brain, and required immediate surgery. She described the pain as unbearable. During her recovery, she temporarily lost her ability to speak, often muttering incoherently.

Though she left the hospital after a month, a 2013 scan revealed the aneurysm had grown and needed a second surgery. This procedure failed, causing a massive bleed and putting her life at risk. Doctors had to perform a more invasive surgery, accessing her brain directly through her skull.

Fortunately, Emilia reports she has now fully recovered and is at 100%.
