Star Wars recently achieved a milestone with the debut of the second Jedi ever to wield a pink lightsaber on screen. While numerous Star Wars films and series have been released, and more are planned, fans continue to witness new moments in the galaxy far, far away – from exploring a new galaxy in *Ahsoka* to now seeing a prominently featured pink lightsaber for the first time.
A new poster for the upcoming season of *Star Wars: Visions* has been released, revealing a key character named Shad-Rah wielding a pink lightsaber. Season 3 will begin streaming on Disney+ on October 29, 2025.
While some red or purple lightsabers might look a little pink, the one belonging to Shad-Rah – seen on the poster for *Visions* Season 3 – is distinctly pink and not any other shade.
Interestingly, the Season 3 poster for *Visions* features a pink circle around Shad-Rah and her lightsaber. This stands out because no other lightsabers on the poster have a similar circle, suggesting that Star Wars is intentionally drawing attention to the pink lightsaber.
The newest trailer for *Star Wars Visions* Season 3 shows Shad-Rah’s lightsaber with a noticeably pinkish-red color.
We’re not sure why the color appears more reddish in this image, but it might be due to the colors around it influencing how we see it.
Throughout the episode, Shad-Rah’s lightsaber could turn red. This change might happen as she battles F, suggesting a possible connection to the dark side, since red is the color typically associated with Sith lightsabers.
Pink lightsabers have shown up in various Star Wars stories, including older Legends material, some video games, and even briefly in a recent official Star Wars show. The first and most famous character to use one was Mara Jade, who fought with a magenta-colored lightsaber.
Currently, Mara Jade exists within the Star Wars Legends continuity, but there’s a possibility she could become part of the official Star Wars story in the future. In Legends, her first lightsaber, used when she worked for the Emperor, was magenta – a color between pink and purple. While not strictly pink, it often looks more pink than purple, so it’s often considered a pink lightsaber.
As a longtime fan, I’ve always found Mara Jade’s weapon choices fascinating. While she *did* briefly use the iconic blue lightsaber passed down from Anakin and Luke Skywalker, she’s really best known for wielding her signature magenta blade. It’s that vibrant color that truly defines her look and fighting style, in my opinion.
Just so you know, *Star Wars: Visions* isn’t officially part of the main *Star Wars* story. While some episodes include characters you might recognize from other *Star Wars* projects, Lucasfilm has explained that the series exists in its own separate timelines.
Unlike older Star Wars stories from Legends or previous games, *Visions* is a current Disney+ series officially made by Lucasfilm. That means anything shown in the series, like the pink lightsaber, is now considered official Star Wars canon.
Other Pink Lightsabers in Star Wars
While pink lightsabers aren’t brand new to the Star Wars universe, they’re quite rare. We’ve only seen a few appear in major movies and shows.
A pink lightsaber actually made its first official appearance in the Disney+ show *Young Jedi Adventures*. You can briefly see one during a scene in the show where many Jedi activate their lightsabers simultaneously. The show is currently being renewed for a third season, set to release this fall.
The character with the pink lightsaber isn’t important to the story and hasn’t even been properly introduced on the show. They’re basically just a nameless face in the background.
Players of the video games *Jedi: Fallen Order* and *Jedi: Survivor* can change the color of Cal Kestis’ lightsaber, and magenta is one of the options. However, Cal is consistently shown with a blue lightsaber in promotional materials, toys, and whenever he’s depicted with his standard look. This suggests that blue is his official, or “canon,” lightsaber color.
Who Is Shad-Rah in Star Wars: Visions?
We’ll learn more about the character Shad-Rah when Season 3 of *Star Wars: Visions* comes out. But even now, fans already know some details: Shad-Rah was a Jedi who fought in the Clone Wars and had a Padawan named F.
The upcoming episode with Shad-Rah continues the story from “The Village Bride,” which originally appeared in Season 1 of *Visions* (you can find a list of the best episodes from Seasons 1 and 2 here). While Shad-Rah appeared in “The Village Bride,” it was only briefly as a body in a flashback, so this new episode will delve deeper into her character.
Details about the episode featuring Shad-Rah are scarce, but it’s titled “The Lost Ones.” We do know that F will have a showdown with Shad-Rah at some point during the Imperial Era.
