Steam experienced a significant outage just a few hours ago, leaving many users unable to access the service. Thankfully, it appears the platform is now recovering, and most features are working again.
Although this might seem like a normal server outage, the fact that multiple platforms were impacted at the same time raises suspicions. It seems unlikely to be a simple coincidence.
Recent reports suggest Steam experienced an outage that might have been caused by a DDoS attack. This issue also impacted other online stores like Riot, PlayStation, and Xbox.
What really struck me was that this wasn’t just a gaming issue! Big services we all use daily – like Microsoft, Google, GitLab, and Lumen – were hit too. It really showed how widespread the problem was.
A Look at the Potential DDos Attack
According to DownDetector reports, both Steam and the Epic Games Store had connection problems yesterday between 1 and 2 PM, and again around 1 AM this morning.

Some cybersecurity experts believe recent service disruptions might have been caused by a large DDoS attack carried out by Aisuru. However, Steam and Riot Games haven’t confirmed this information yet.
Aisuru is a large network of compromised computers, known as a botnet, and it’s recently been connected to several denial-of-service attacks.
According to a Cloudflare report, Aisuru was responsible for extremely large DDoS attacks – the biggest ever recorded on the internet, exceeding previous attacks by a significant margin.
It’s currently unclear if Steam will face further attacks. Right now, everything is just guesswork, as Steam hasn’t officially confirmed anything. However, the timing of this incident seems too suspicious to dismiss.
