NCIS Showrunner Teases Big Surprises and High-Stakes Action in Season 23

The show is starting its twenty-third season. Before it begins, the executive producer and showrunner, Stephen D. Binder, shared some hints about what viewers can expect this season.

NCIS Season 23 will kick off with a fast-paced premiere, according to executive producer Charles Binder, who described it as “super continuous.” He promised plenty of excitement and action throughout the new season, saying the team is determined to maintain that momentum. The previous season left several major plot points unresolved, including the murder of Alden Parker’s (Gary Cole) father. Viewers can also expect to learn more about the mystery surrounding Parker’s visions of a young girl named Lily and the secrets she holds.

When discussing how various plotlines might connect in *NCIS* Season 23, executive producer David Binder explained that the creative team extensively considered the possibility during the show’s development. He said they initially thought a surprise connection could work, and that sometimes ideas evolve naturally as production progresses. Ultimately, however, they decided the storylines felt more authentic as separate parts of the character’s life, rather than being forced together.

Following the events of Season 22, particularly the murder of Roman Parker by Kansas City mob boss Carla Marino (Rebecca De Mornay), Season 23 will likely focus on revenge. Cole explained in May that the storyline will explore whether that revenge is justly directed at Marino or misdirected. He also emphasized that the events will have a significant psychological impact on the character.

NCIS Season 23 Will Cross Over with an Unexpected Spinoff

In early September, it was revealed that the popular show *NCIS* will have a crossover event with its prequel, *NCIS: Origins*, even though the two shows take place decades apart. This two-part event will air on November 11th, starting with a new episode of *NCIS: Origins*. That episode will present the details of a case as they were known in the early 1990s.

As a huge *NCIS* fan, I’m really excited about what’s coming next! Right after the premiere, a new episode will pick up a case that went cold years ago – something the original team, with a young Jethro Gibbs leading the charge, just couldn’t crack. It’s going to be fascinating to see them finally try to solve this old mystery!

NCIS Season 23 premieres on CBS on Oct. 14, with new episodes airing on Tuesdays.
