The 2010s were a great decade for horror movies. Films like *The Conjuring*, *Hereditary*, and *A Quiet Place* were both popular with audiences and helped bring the horror genre back into the spotlight. While many horror films from that era don’t get the recognition they deserve, one particularly good holiday horror movie just became available to stream on Peacock this October.
Michael Dougherty’s spooky and funny Christmas horror film, *Krampus*, became available on Peacock on October 1st. The movie tells the story of a boy whose disappointing family experiences cause him to lose his Christmas cheer, which accidentally summons Krampus – a demon who punishes those who don’t believe in the holiday spirit. While it doesn’t always get the attention it deserves compared to typical horror or Christmas movies, *Krampus* has a 67% rating from critics and a 52% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Why You Should Watch Krampus
As a huge fan of horror, I was really excited when Michael Dougherty followed up his fantastic debut, *Trick ‘r Treat*, with *Krampus*. And honestly, it’s just as good! Like *Trick ‘r Treat*, *Krampus* takes familiar Christmas traditions and gives them a darkly funny, scary twist. What really struck me was how much the movie relies on creating a mood – it’s all about atmosphere and the incredible creature designs. They used a cool blue filter throughout the film which made the winter setting feel even more bleak and isolated, really ramping up the dread. And the monsters themselves? Amazing. Krampus is genuinely terrifying – a nightmarish figure with a goat-like body and horns, dressed in a ripped-up Santa suit. Plus, those killer gingerbread men and demonic toys? Seriously creepy and visually stunning.
The unique and frightening design of Krampus, combined with great performances from the cast – including Adam Scott and Toni Collette – and its effective blend of horror and humor, all strongly suggest this film deserves a sequel or even a series of films. Despite its potential and positive reception, a follow-up to the 2015 movie hasn’t materialized, even though director Dougherty has hinted at an idea involving a group of people trapped together. For now, fans can re-enjoy the original, which is now available to stream on Peacock.

Whether you’re not quite ready for Christmas-themed frights or you just need more movies to fill out your Halloween marathon, they’ve got a huge collection of spooky titles already available. Plus, if you’re into franchises, they have a ton of *Friday the 13th*, *Leprechaun*, and *Scream* movies.
