We’ve crunched the numbers — this Xbox Game Pass discount is the smartest way to save

Microsoft has significantly increased the price of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, raising it by 50% and causing a lot of frustration among gamers. While players adjust to the higher cost, some retailers are offering temporary discounts on subscriptions.

Following the recent issues, online stores are offering deals on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions during Amazon Prime Day. We’ve collected some of the best discounts for you to check out.

Is Xbox Game Pass Ultimate still worth it even with the price hike?

The horrors of Halloween have come early for Xbox fans in the worst way possible.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate now costs $29.99 per month – a 50% increase – due to major changes to the service. This price change doesn’t apply to everyone right away, as some countries will see the increase later.

This announcement has sparked significant anger, with many players canceling their Xbox Game Pass subscriptions. This comes after players were already upset about two price increases for Xbox consoles this year, which were due to US tariffs.

I’m disappointed, like many others, to see the price of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate increase so much.

This service was fantastic, letting players experience a huge library of games – including popular titles like Lies of P and Hollow Knight: Silksong – before they decided to purchase them.

Now that prices have gone up, players on a budget will likely need to choose less expensive Xbox Game Pass plans, which means they won’t have access to as many games.

If enough people complain, Microsoft might reverse its price increase for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and return to the original price.

If Microsoft stops offering what I need, I’m planning to switch from Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to PC Game Pass, following the advice of my coworker Jez Corden, as it’s the most suitable alternative.

You might be wondering why? PC Game Pass offers many of the same great perks as Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, including immediate access to new Xbox games, a huge library of games (with titles from EA Play and Ubisoft+), and a yearly $50 Xbox credit.

Okay, so I’m a huge fan of PC Game Pass, but honestly, the biggest downside is that it’s stuck to Windows PCs and handhelds. It’d be amazing if it worked on other platforms too, but right now it’s pretty limited in that regard.

It’s a small cost, especially when compared to the $30 monthly fee for similar services – though you’ll need a good gaming computer to get the most out of them.
