Everyone in the world of *The Boys* is currently buzzing about Project Odessa. In Season 2 of *Gen V*, Starlight approaches Marie Moreau, who recently escaped from college, and asks her to return to Godolkin University to investigate Vought’s project. Though hesitant at first, Marie agrees, and she and her friends quickly discover a shocking truth: Marie is one of the few people who survived Project Odessa. This revelation is a huge blow to her, and things are made even more difficult by the university’s new dean, Cipher, who is pushing her to fully control her powers.
Cipher constantly praises Marie, claiming she’s incredibly powerful and could reshape the world. This overwhelms Marie, so she tries to tune out Cipher’s guidance and concentrate on the larger issues at hand. However, a shocking revelation in *Gen V* Season 2, Episode 6, forces her to acknowledge the truth: she’s a key player in the battle against Vought.
Homelander Finally Has Some Real Competition

When Cipher discovers the group’s plan to reveal his secrets, he retaliates by sending Cate Dunlap to a dangerous rehabilitation center. Though Marie, Jordan, and Emma don’t fully trust Cate, they refuse to let her suffer, and attempt a rescue mission. As usual for *Gen V*, things don’t go as planned, and they all end up imprisoned. Marie finds a small comfort in discovering her sister, Annabeth, is also at the center. After using her powers to save Annabeth’s life, Marie and her friends escape with help from Sam Riordan and a getaway van. They seek refuge in an abandoned library to strategize, but their plans are interrupted by a destructive arrival from Vikor. Luckily, Zoe, Victoria Neuman’s daughter, appears just in time to subdue the powerful Supe.
Zoe is visiting her grandfather, Stan Edgar, the former head of Vought. He’s now focused on taking down Homelander and getting back in control, just like many others. Edgar’s biggest advantage is his knowledge. He tells Marie that she and Homelander are the only two people who survived Project Odessa, meaning they have similar abilities. He warns her she might not succumb to madness like he has, but her potential is enormous. This information overwhelms Marie, who simply wants to find her sister and live a normal life. Although Marie isn’t quite ready for a major conflict, the constant comparisons to Homelander suggest she may have a significant role to play. It’s clear that *The Boys* is building towards an epic showdown.
Marie Is Sure to Get Her Chance at Revenge Before the End of The Boys

Given all the complex storylines in both *Gen V* and *The Boys*, it’s easy to overlook Marie’s personal conflict with Homelander. He appears in the first season finale, initially seeming helpful, but he unexpectedly attacks Marie, who is simply trying to prevent Cate and Sam from harming others, and knocks her unconscious. When she regains consciousness, she and her friends are preparing for their time in Elmira. Everything terrible that has happened to Marie, including Andre Anderson’s death, ultimately leads back to Homelander. There’s even a strong argument to be made that he’s responsible for the death of her parents, as she was only subjected to experimentation because he had previously survived the same tests.
It’s doubtful Marie will face off against Homelander in the remaining two episodes of *Gen V*. Cipher still has a few surprises planned, and everything suggests Marie will seek revenge before *The Boys* ends. While others like Billy Butcher and Starlight also want to confront him, Marie is uniquely equipped to fight Homelander, possessing the power to truly challenge the world’s strongest Supe.
Gen V Season 2 is streaming on Prime Video.
