The new Masters of the Universe movie from Amazon MGM Studios has revealed its first official artwork. Studio executive Greg Coleman also recently discussed some story details for the upcoming live-action film.
At the Brand Licensing Europe event, Coleman hinted that the upcoming movie will have a lighthearted and enjoyable storyline. He also mentioned that the film adaptation will include hidden references and details for fans of the original game to discover.
Coleman described Skeletor as a particularly compelling villain, and highlighted the story of Adam, an ordinary man who discovers a hidden power within himself. He emphasized the film features a well-developed cast and a strong vision from director Travis Knight, making it enjoyable even for those unfamiliar with the Masters of the Universe franchise.
He explained that while longtime fans will enjoy hidden details in the movie, it’s designed to be easily enjoyed by everyone. He believes it will be a widely discussed and popular film.
What does the Masters of the Universe art show?
Okay, folks, we’ve just gotten our first glimpse of Snake Mountain, and let me tell you, it looks appropriately menacing – all lava and jagged edges, exactly what you’d expect from Skeletor’s headquarters. And speaking of Skeletor, Jared Leto, yes *the* Jared Leto, is taking on the role of the iconic villain. An Academy Award winner playing Skeletor? It’s certainly…a choice, and one I’m definitely going to be watching closely. The concept art definitely sets a dark and dramatic tone, and with Leto involved, this reboot is already grabbing attention.
Travis Knight is directing the live-action movie, written by Chris Butler, and originally drafted by Aaron and Adam Nee and David Callaham. The film features Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam/He-Man, alongside Camila Mendes as Teela, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms, Morena Baccarin as The Sorceress, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Malcolm/Fisto, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson as Goat Man, Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, and Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops, among others. Escape Artists and Mattel Films are producing, with Robbie Brenner, Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch serving as producers.
The movie centers on Prince Adam, a 10-year-old who arrived on Earth in a spaceship and lost his magical Power Sword—his only connection to his home planet, Eternia. Nearly twenty years later, he finds the sword and is called back to Eternia to fight Skeletor and his evil forces. To win, Prince Adam must first learn about his past and transform into He-Man, the most powerful being in the Universe!
The movie arrives in theaters on June 5, 2026.
