Victoria Beckham is getting honest about the pressure she’s faced to be thin.
Victoria Beckham, known from the Spice Girls, has revealed that years of public scrutiny about her body have taken a toll on her well-being, leading to unhealthy behaviors and impacting both her mental and physical health. She shares four children – Brooklyn, 26, Romeo, 23, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 14 – with her husband, David Beckham.
In her new Netflix documentary, which launched on October 9th, Victoria shared a painful memory: being weighed on national television when her daughter, Brooklyn, was just six months old. While they now joke about it, Victoria admits she was very young at the time and the experience still bothers her.
Oh my gosh, it just breaks my heart thinking about it. Victoria was so young, only 25, and the pressure to look like those ’90s pop stars *forever* really started to get to her as the years went on. It was awful to watch, honestly. She just wanted to be herself, but everyone expected her to stay exactly as she was when she first became famous.
I began to seriously question myself and my self-worth because I allowed it to impact me so deeply,” Victoria Beckham, now 51, explained. “I lost touch with reality and didn’t recognize the person I saw in the mirror. I was overly critical and simply didn’t like what I saw.”
The public’s harsh nicknames were especially upsetting for Victoria, who shared, “I’ve been called everything from ‘Porky Posh’ to ‘Skinny Posh.’ It’s been really difficult to deal with.”
The scrutiny led her to develop an eating disorder, which she said she struggled with in silence.
She explained she was managing her weight in a very damaging way. Because of her eating disorder, she became skilled at keeping it hidden, and she never confided in her parents or spoke about it publicly. She added that constantly being told she wasn’t good enough had a significant impact on her.
Victoria says she still feels this way, even now, and believes it’s something she’s carried with her throughout her life.

She recalled in her book, *That Extra Half an Inch: Hair, Heels and Everything in Between*, that it was all about the bob haircut, high heels, and a little black dress – though she jokingly admitted the dress wasn’t actually Gucci, but from Miss Selfridge.

He doesn’t feel the need to impress anyone with his clothes anymore, and honestly, that confidence really shines through. It’s refreshing to see someone so comfortable in their own skin!
