Sony and AMD just released a new video on the PlayStation YouTube channel detailing their collaborative work on Project Amethyst, a project focused on developing next-generation technology.
This research includes work on the PS6. According to system architect Mark Cerny, while the technology is still in early development and currently only exists as simulations, the initial results are encouraging, and he’s optimistic about incorporating it into a future console within a few years.
As a gamer, I’m really excited about this new tech! It’s all about using machine learning to make games look and play even better in the future. And it sounds like the PS5 Pro is going to be the first to get a big boost with something called PSSR next year. Apparently, it’s like a supercharged version of the FSR 4 tech that’s already available on PCs – they’re calling it the ‘full-fat’ version, which sounds awesome!
I just checked out the video, and it explains all the cool tech behind this and how these two companies are working together – it’s really interesting!
Recent comments confirm what Sony has been saying for a while: the PlayStation 6 is still several years off. Mark Cerny mentioned earlier this year that he’s planning for the next generation of consoles over multiple years. There are rumors that the PS6 will be released with a new handheld console, and Sony appears to be quietly preparing for this with a power-saving mode on the current PS5. Some also believe Sony might use a detachable disc drive with the PS6, similar to what they’ve done before.
