The comedy manga *Super Psychic Policeman Chojo* in *Weekly Shonen Jump*, created by Shun Numa, was canceled in June after a short run. It began in February of the previous year, ending at chapter 64 and totaling eight volumes. *Weekly Shonen Jump* is famous for launching many globally successful manga series, but many promising titles are unfortunately canceled. Each year, *Weekly Shonen Jump* and *Shonen Jump+* publish numerous series, and to make space for new ones, they must discontinue those that don’t gain enough popularity within a year.
Publishers don’t usually announce when a manga series is canceled due to poor sales, but it’s often clear if the series ends abruptly around 50-60 chapters. Many fans believe *Super Psychic Policeman Chojo* was canceled for this reason. However, there’s renewed interest in the series thanks to a surprising third-place ranking in the Next Manga Awards this September and the announcement of an anime adaptation by Arvo Animation. The news was shared by @WSJ_manga, a popular unofficial source for *Shonen Jump* news. The anime, directed by Junichi Yamamoto – known for his visual effects work on the acclaimed film *Your Name* – is scheduled to be released in 2026.
What Is the Plot of Super Psychic Policeman Chojo?
In a world where people with psychic abilities – like telepathy and the power to read objects – solve crimes, the most skilled become FBI or CIA agents. Those with more modest talents often join the police force, using their abilities to help others. The story takes place in Kabukicho, a bustling entertainment district in Shinjuku, Japan, where something is *always* happening, and peace is rare.
The West Shinjuku Police Station generally deals with minor, everyday cases. Meguru Chojo, a detective with the power to read minds, is typically avoided by women. Unfortunately for rookie officer Nao Ippongi, she’s assigned to work with him, and feels uneasy knowing he can access all of her thoughts, as you can’t always choose your colleagues.
Nao and Meguru often clash, but Nao starts to understand Meguru better when he single-handedly handles a risky situation. Working together at a quiet police station in a busy part of town, they constantly face challenges to keep everyone safe. You can find the manga on the official Manga Plus app, and it’s available to purchase as both ebooks and physical copies.
