The author of the popular light novel series, Chugong, has just announced that a movie adaptation is in development.
Ever since the second season of *Solo Leveling* came out, fans have been wondering what’s next for the anime. Although the series is still popular with new video games, a continuing sequel manhwa called *Solo Leveling: Ragnarok*, and a live-action Netflix adaptation in the works, we still don’t know when Season 3 will be released. Recent comments from the author, Chugong, suggest the delay might be because a movie is also being planned.
Solo Leveling Team is Working on Making a Movie According to Chugong
In a recent interview with LitRes, a Russian ebook and audiobook platform, author Chugong talked about his popular light novel series and his plans for the future of *Solo Leveling*. When asked if there had been interest in turning the series into a movie or TV show, Chugong said that he was aware of ongoing discussions about potential adaptations.
Although details are scarce, this news is exciting for Sung Jinwoo fans. The author hasn’t confirmed if the talks involve a movie or an anime, but given an existing live-action project is already in the works, it’s likely these discussions are about an anime film instead.
If this is an anime film, it explains why a third season of *Solo Leveling* hasn’t been announced yet. The studio likely wants to release the movie before starting a new season. This could also be why Aniplex producer Sota Furuhashi hinted at other plans – they’re working on the movie in the meantime.
Following the massive success of *Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle*, which shattered anime movie records, and with *Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc* expected to perform incredibly well when it arrives in the US on October 24th, it’s no surprise the creators of *Solo Leveling* are also entering the movie scene. Notably, author Chugong shared in a recent interview that his favorite part of *Solo Leveling* to write was the Red Gate arc – the very same arc that’s been adapted into *Solo Leveling’s* first film, *Solo Leveling: ReAwakening*.
While Chugong didn’t share many details about the upcoming *Solo Leveling* movie, he did discuss the future of the franchise. He sparked some debate by comparing the *Solo Leveling* universe to Marvel’s multiverse. Following this, Chugong mentioned he’s considering writing a sequel to the original *Solo Leveling* story.
You can watch the anime *Solo Leveling* on Crunchyroll. If you’d like to read the *Solo Leveling: Ragnarok* webcomic, it’s available in English on Tapas.
