Game of Thrones’ new spin-off series finally confirms release date with epic first-look trailer

Get ready to return to Westeros! A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will be released soon – the official release date has just been announced!

The new Game of Thrones spin-off, with six episodes, will premiere on January 18, 2026 – it’s coming soon!

For UK fans, that will work out as 19th January, with the series coming to Sky and NOW.

A brand new trailer just dropped, confirming the exciting news and offering a fresh look at Westeros. This time, the story is told through the eyes of Ser Duncan the Tall, known as Dunk (played by Peter Claffey), and his young companion, Prince Aegon Targaryen, or Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell).

This story takes place in the world of Game of Thrones, a century before the events of that show and over seventy years after House of the Dragon. It centers on two unexpected heroes as they travel across the Seven Kingdoms.

This new series appears to be more lighthearted than its predecessors, *Game of Thrones* and *House of the Dragon*. The trailer introduces a humble knight on a journey to fulfill his destiny, but it’s clear he’ll face plenty of challenges and setbacks along the way.

The new series will break with Game of Thrones’ established style by replacing its elaborate opening sequence with a basic title card.

Good news for fans: author George R.R. Martin calls the new adaptation “faithful,” which is a relief after he had some concerns about *House of the Dragon*!

He shared in a blog post that he’s watched all six episodes – though he admits the final two were unfinished versions – and thoroughly enjoyed them.

I’ve always loved the characters Dunk and Egg, and the actors playing them are fantastic. The entire cast is really strong, and I can’t wait for you all to meet the Laughing Storm and Tanselle Too-Tall!

He explained that ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ is based on ‘The Hedge Knight,’ the first story he wrote in that series. He believes it’s a very accurate adaptation – and, he joked, he’s known for being strict about staying true to his source material.

Not long now!
