At first, streaming services focused on having shows and movies you couldn’t find anywhere else. But recently, many companies have started licensing their content to other streaming platforms. Most streaming services, except for Disney and Netflix, are now sharing popular shows and new releases with competitors or free streaming services. Tubi, a free service with ads, has especially benefited, adding a lot of content that used to be exclusive to a single platform.
This month, Amazon’s Prime Video made its popular 2020 comedy film, *Borat Subsequent Moviefilm*, available to stream for free on Tubi. The movie was a surprise hit and even received an Oscar nomination.
The highly anticipated follow-up to the 2006 comedy hit was released in late 2020 and quickly proved to be a surprisingly excellent sequel. The film also launched the career of Maria Bakalova, Sacha Baron Cohen’s co-star, who received an Academy Award nomination for her work.
Five years after its debut on Prime Video, *Borat Subsequent Moviefilm* is now streaming on Tubi. This means you can watch it for free, with ads.
Streaming Movies and Shows on Rival Services
Over the last few years, we’ve seen a growing trend of shows and movies that originally appeared only on streaming services now becoming available on other platforms and even free services. Companies are doing this to make extra money from content they already own. A recent example is the *Vacation Friends* movies, starring John Cena and Lil Rel Howery, which originally streamed on Hulu.
Both *Vacation Friends* movies originally appeared only on Hulu. While the first film was briefly available on Tubi, you can now stream both movies on Prime Video as well as Hulu.
Streaming services like Tubi have become a new home for shows and movies that other companies have removed from their own platforms. For example, when HBO Max removed many animated series – including classics like *Looney Tunes* and *Scooby-Doo* – and some of its original programming, Tubi picked them up. Currently, Tubi is the only place where you can stream *Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!*, the original cartoon that started the entire *Scooby-Doo* franchise, even though it’s owned by Warner Bros.
The world of streaming is constantly changing, with shows and movies appearing and disappearing from different platforms unexpectedly. If you want to be sure you can always watch your favorites, buying physical copies – like DVDs or Blu-rays – is a great option. That way, you’ll still have access to them no matter what happens with any particular streaming service.
