Amazon Prime Video has quickly become a major player in animated series. While shows like *Invincible* and adult animation hits such as *Hazbin Hotel* and *Helluva Boss* are gaining popularity, one fantasy series has built a dedicated following all its own. *Critical Role* started as a web series where voice actors played *Dungeons & Dragons*, attracting millions of viewers over several years. This fall, a new animated installment will continue the story begun in *The Legend of Vox Machina*.

Fans of Critical Role can look forward to *The Mighty Nein* arriving on Amazon Prime Video November 19th. This animated series introduces a new group of adventurers following the success of *Vox Machina*. Based on Critical Role’s second campaign, *The Mighty Nein* tells the story of a band of unlikely heroes – a group of outcasts and fugitives haunted by their pasts. When a dangerous relic called “The Beacon” falls into the wrong hands, they must overcome their differences and work together to save the world from destruction.

The Critical Role Animated Universe

I’m still buzzing about Vox Machina! Even though we’re getting *The Mighty Nein* animated soon, I was so excited to hear that *The Legend of Vox Machina* isn’t finished just yet. Season three wrapped up last October, and we’re looking at season four in 2026. But here’s the big news: Critical Role has confirmed they’re making a fifth season! It’s going to be amazing, but it’ll also be the final chapter for these characters. Honestly, it feels right – the original campaign had a definite ending, and it’s cool that the animated series will wrap things up in a similar way for Vox Machina.

If you’re new to Critical Role, the show has continued beyond the stories of Vox Machina and the Mighty Nein with additional campaigns. The most recent one, called “Bells Hells,” and the current campaign represent a shift in how the show is run. Previously, voice actor Matthew Mercer created the storylines and led the games. Now, Brennan Lee Mulligan from Dropout TV is the Game Master, and players are exploring a brand new world called Araman. While these newer campaigns haven’t been officially announced as animated series like the earlier ones, given how popular Critical Role is, it’s possible they could be adapted for animation in the future.
