Allen Iverson, Wife Tawanna Turner Reconcile After 2013 Divorce

Rekindling their love was the answer for Allen Iverson and his wife Tawanna Turner.

The retired NBA player shared that he and his ex-wife, Tawanna, are now back together. He explained that their divorce back in 2013 was a difficult experience that ultimately led to significant personal growth for him.

I realized things had reached a breaking point when my wife, Tawanna, filed for divorce,” Allen shared with Stephen A. Smith on *First Take* on October 8th. “After being together for 35 years, it takes a lot for someone to want to end the marriage. It was a wake-up call, and ultimately led to some serious self-reflection. We eventually reconciled, and I understood more about what happened afterward.”

Tawanna and Allen, who have five children together – Tiaura, 30, Allen II, 27, Isaiah, 22, Messiah, 20, and Dream, 17 – first tried to divorce in 2010 but later dismissed the case. They re-filed for divorce in 2011, and it was finalized in 2013. Tawanna and Allen had married in 2001 after meeting in high school.

And the Philadelphia 76ers legend recalled the experience seeing his marriage be legally dissolved. 

Allen described feeling completely defeated. He said he’d exhausted all options and nothing had helped. While sitting in court, he usually watched practice games – sometimes the Sixers playing themselves, or Georgetown against Georgetown. But during this particularly low moment, tears fell onto the papers in front of him, and he noticed he was looking at a matchup of Allen Iverson against himself. He realized then that he’d reached rock bottom.

The author of *Misunderstood*, who recently shared that he’s been sober for six months, said Tawanna’s ongoing support motivated him to pursue positive changes in his life.

I really had to make some big changes in my life,” the 50-year-old explained. “She told me she’d never prayed about something like this before – not until I told her I was stopping drinking. I’d tried to stop before, so this time felt different. She said she prayed about it because she knew I was serious and being genuine.

Allen knew that earning back his beloved’s affection required significant effort and a genuine transformation in himself.

He jokingly said on *First Take* that he had to put in a lot of effort to fix things with his partner. He explained he did a lot of begging and had to show her he’d changed. He told her how much she means to him, how important she is to his personal growth, and how much he values her role in his future.

He continued, “I don’t feel like I’m the same Allen Iverson without her. She is my life.”
