Forget summer, it’s the autumn Christopher Briney turned into a comedy star.
Lola Tung, known for her role in *The Summer I Turned Pretty*, will join the cast of *Hacks* for its fifth season, HBO Max announced on October 9th.
Although the specifics of Chris’s role in the Emmy-winning series, which stars Jean Smart as Deborah Vance and Hannah Einbinder as Ava Daniels, haven’t been revealed yet, HBO has shared a peek at him filming.
The *Mean Girls* actor wore a blue and orange silk Versace blouse with tight jeans and a black belt. His shirt was partially unbuttoned, revealing his fake chest tattoos, as he put his arm around Jean, who was wearing a matching long-sleeved Versace shirt.
The fifth season of the popular comedy will bring back its core cast, including Paul W. Downs as Jimmy Lusaque Jr., Megan Stalter as Kayla Schaeffer, Carl Clemons-Hopkins as Marcus, Mark Indelicato as Damien, and Rose Abdoo as Josefina.
Although Christopher may be starting new work, he might not be finished with his role as Conrad Fisher in *The Summer I Turned Pretty*.
Following the season three finale, Prime Video revealed that the actors who play the main romantic couple – he and Lola Tung (who plays Belly Conklin) – will continue their story in a new movie based on *The Summer I Turned Pretty*.
The movie, which will be written and directed by Jenny Han – also the author of the original books the series is based on – may not be released as quickly as fans are expecting.
Jenny shared on September 18th’s *Today* show that she and her co-showrunner, Sarah Kucserka, have completed a first draft of their project. While they’re making progress, she confirmed it won’t be released next year.
As for continuing the story of Belly and Conrad, Chris is happy to give Jenny the creative freedom to develop it.
He told Deadline in September that it really depends on Jenny. He was relieved he wasn’t part of the writing team, saying he’d probably end up adding something silly.
