Embark Studios’ extraction shooter, ARC Raiders, will be released on October 30th for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. The game has generated a lot of excitement, but a key question remains: how will it manage progression resets – a common feature in this type of game designed to keep things fair for all players?
The Expedition Project lets players decide when to start over. Once you reach level 20, you can participate in Projects, which require gathering and submitting materials over an eight-week period. If the Expedition Project is finished in the last week, you’ll be able to reset your character’s progress.
If you don’t act within the allotted time, your progress won’t change, but you’ll have to wait until the next cycle to start over. When you do reset, you’ll lose all your unlocked skills, items, levels, and crafting abilities. Don’t worry, though – things like cosmetic items, achievements, and your ranking will stay safe.
What’s the benefit of starting with a significant disadvantage, beyond just skipping the initial instructions and gaining immediate access to all areas? Embark is still finalizing the details, but each Expedition will offer lasting account benefits and exclusive cosmetic items. Additionally, your account will receive temporary boosts that last for the duration of the Expedition, and repeating Expeditions will make those boosts even stronger.
We’re being very careful about how these improvements affect the game’s balance. Our main goal is to ensure that completing a reset doesn’t give any player an unfair advantage over others who haven’t done so.
At first, the advantages will mostly be cosmetic – things like unique appearances and showing off achievements. They’ll also improve the overall gameplay experience and make it a little easier for players who are starting over.
Things might change, especially after the game officially releases, so we’ll keep you updated. If you’re interested in playing, you can test it out during the server slam from October 17th to 19th on all platforms.
