Cindy McCain is recovering after a scary health crisis.
Cindy McCain, the widow of the late Senator John McCain, suffered a minor stroke while in Rome, Italy. She was visiting the United Nations World Food Programme headquarters, where she serves as executive director, according to a statement released by the organization on October 9th.
After completing treatment, Cindy—mother to Meghan, Jack, Jimmy, and Bridget McCain—was given the okay to travel and went back to her home in Arizona. She is expected to recover there for up to six weeks.
She expressed her gratitude to the medical team in Italy for the wonderful care she received, stating that she’s recovering well because of their excellent work. She’s looking forward to finishing her recovery at home in Arizona with her family.
Despite a recent health issue, the former U.S. Ambassador to the UN food and agriculture organizations stressed the need for her team to maintain their normal operations.
While the situation is ongoing, I’m confident my team will continue to prioritize getting food to the over 100 million people we support in 87 countries. Addressing global hunger is more important than ever, and I’m incredibly proud of their daily efforts.
The 71-year-old stated she hopes to return to work quickly. She shared, “I’m eager to rejoin WFP teams in the field, working to fight famine and help communities who need support.”
Cindy experienced a health issue seven years after losing her husband, who passed away at 81 after a fight with brain cancer.
Meghan, John’s daughter, shared a statement on X expressing the sadness her family felt after her father’s death. She said his passing brought grief to her, her mother, and her siblings. She described him as a vibrant and loving presence in their lives, and they would carry his memory and spirit with them always.
A year after he passed away, Cindy explained how she was honoring his memory through her work as a diplomat.
She told *The Washington Post* in 2019 that he taught her many valuable lessons, but one that stood out was the need to persevere and continue working towards your goals, even after setbacks.

She reassured her sister, Bella Garcia, that they would get the issue resolved eventually. Lupita Nyong’o received a diagnosis of uterine fibroids – non-cancerous growths in or around the uterus – in 2014, the year she won an Academy Award for her acting role in *12 Years a Slave*.
She didn’t share her diagnosis until 2025, when she revealed on Instagram that she had been privately struggling with the condition for over ten years.
She explained that growing up, many of us are taught to accept period pain as a normal part of being female. This often leaves people dealing with a very common experience in silence and without support.
Okay, so this is something I’m seeing more and more with my clients – and it just happened to a star from *Daisy Jones & The Six*! She recently shared that she ended up in the hospital because of a hernia. Basically, it’s a weakness or gap in your abdominal muscles, and surprisingly, it was caused by wearing pants that were just *too* tight. It’s a good reminder that comfort and health should always come first, even with fashion!
Someone messaged Suki on X (formerly Twitter) asking why she hadn’t been tweeting. Suki replied, jokingly suggesting the reason was a hernia she got six months ago from wearing very tight pants, and that she’d been afraid to mention it.
The former star of *Beverly Hills, 90210* shared in April 2025 that he was recovering from surgery to repair a nearly ruptured appendix.

He added, “I’m on the road to recovery. It’s not an easy process. This is my first major surgery.”

“It’s been awful,” Devine shared on the 2025 episode of the *In Depth With Graham Bensinger* podcast. “I’ve been having spasms all over my body, and doctors told me recently that my condition was life-threatening—I really thought I was going to die within the last year.”

A former contestant on *The Bachelor* recently revealed he had to crawl to the hospital because of severe back pain that worsened during a road trip with a friend.
He described a strange tingling sensation that still lingered in his legs as of March 2025, sharing this on his *Trading Secrets* podcast. He explained that just a few weeks prior, he’d been squatting nearly 300 pounds, but now he couldn’t even do a basic squat or stand on one leg without falling. He compared the feeling to having a stroke.
But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

In an Instagram post, she explained that she was accidentally shot in the face by someone at a party who fired a gun unsafely. Amy Schumer is grateful for the internet, even though it can be harsh, because it helped her discover a health issue. After noticing she looked “puffier,” Schumer was surprised to see doctors commenting on her appearance online. They suggested she might have Cushing syndrome, potentially caused by steroid injections. This prompted Schumer to realize she *had* been receiving steroid injections after a breast reduction and C-section. Without the online commentary, she wouldn’t have connected the injections to her symptoms and learned she had Cushing syndrome. Thankfully, doctors determined her condition would resolve on its own, which Schumer described as “the greatest news imaginable.” She’s now relieved to be healthy.
As a huge hockey fan and someone who follows the AHL closely, I was really shaken to hear about the injury one player suffered back in December 2024. He was unfortunately cut by a skate during a game and needed 25 stitches! Thankfully, he made a full recovery, and his dad, Tom Fitzgerald – the GM of the New Jersey Devils – shared how relieved they were with ESPN. He said, and it really hit me, ‘We’re very lucky. I don’t wish that on any parent.’ It’s a scary reminder of the risks these players take, and I was just so glad to hear the young man was okay.
In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a frightening health scare while having breakfast with her husband, Justin. She suddenly developed stroke-like symptoms, initially unable to respond when Justin asked if she was okay. She then realized she couldn’t speak and the right side of her face began to droop.
Although the symptoms eventually subsided, Hailey went to the hospital and tests revealed she’d had a small blood clot in her brain, which doctors identified as a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack).
Further testing at UCLA discovered Hailey had a hole in her heart called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). Doctors determined the blood clot had traveled to her brain through this hole, causing the TIA.
Hailey has since undergone a successful procedure to close the PFO and is now doing well.
The same year Hailey faced a health issue, Justin also experienced one. In June 2022, he revealed he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which caused temporary paralysis on one side of his face. This forced him to cancel the rest of his Justice World Tour.
In a video posted to Instagram, Justin explained the condition affected the nerves in his ear and face, preventing him from blinking, smiling, or moving his nostril on the affected side. He also shared that it had become increasingly difficult to eat.
Fortunately, the paralysis eventually went away. Hailey shared on *Good Morning America* that Justin was recovering well, calling the situation scary but reassuring everyone he would be okay and was grateful he was on the mend.
Jamie Foxx recently shared details about the health scare he experienced in April 2023, which he had previously kept private. In his 2024 Netflix special, *What Had Happened Was…*, he explained that he was suffering from a severe headache when he suddenly lost consciousness. He doesn’t remember the next 20 days.
Initially, a doctor gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home, but his sister, Deidra Dixon, was worried and took him to the hospital. Doctors discovered he’d had a brain bleed that caused a stroke.
After surgery, Jamie woke up in a wheelchair on May 4th, unable to walk. He then traveled to Chicago for extensive rehabilitation and therapy. He expressed deep gratitude for the prayers he received, saying he needed every single one.
Let me tell you, things got *intense* on set recently! During the first challenge of the show, I actually collapsed while running a mile. It felt…well, like I briefly ‘died,’ honestly. It was a really scary moment, but thankfully I’m okay now!
She shared on the show *Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser* that her memory of the event was fragmented. She recalled hearing a helicopter, feeling as though she was floating, and then seeing her grandfather. After that, everything went dark, followed by a bright light. She realized in that moment that she had died.
She explained that her organs were failing. She hadn’t known she had rhabdomyolysis, a condition where your body essentially starts to shut down.
Oh my god, I was absolutely devastated when I read Emilia Clarke’s essay. She filmed all those incredible battle scenes in *Game of Thrones* while battling something so terrifying! She described how it all started with a terrible headache at the gym, and then suddenly she was violently ill, realizing something was seriously wrong with her brain. It turned out she’d had a subarachnoid hemorrhage – a stroke caused by bleeding around the brain – from a ruptured aneurysm. She had emergency surgery, but the pain sounded unbearable, and she even lost her ability to speak properly for a while, just muttering nonsense. She recovered and was discharged after a month, but then a scan in 2013 revealed another growth that had *doubled* in size! She needed *another* surgery, and this one failed, causing a massive bleed. They had to open her skull! It was so scary reading about how close she came to not making it. But thankfully, she says she’s now at 100%, and honestly, knowing she went through all of that while giving us Daenerys is just… incredible. I’m so glad she’s okay.
As a huge supporter of the Broadus family, I was so relieved to hear Cori is recovering well! Back in January 2024, she suffered a really scary stroke, and she told Will Marfuggi from TopMob News that her family immediately rushed to be there for her. It wasn’t just the stroke though – she also shared that she ended up staying in the hospital longer than expected because of some existing health issues with her lupus and kidneys. Thankfully, she says she’s doing great now, just working on regaining some motor skills. It’s amazing to see her strength and resilience, and I’m so happy she has such a supportive family!
Shailene Woodley struggled with serious health issues throughout her early twenties. In a September 2024 podcast interview, she revealed she experienced hearing loss, extreme fatigue, and digestive problems that made eating painful. For years, she received conflicting diagnoses from various doctors.
Drawing on her background in herbalism and holistic health, Shailene sought answers from both traditional doctors and alternative healers, hoping to find relief and understand what was happening to her body.
This search for wellness lasted a decade, and the physical discomfort led to deeper emotional challenges. She developed a fear of food and struggled with body image issues and questions about her identity.
Fortunately, after years of dedicated work on her physical and mental health, Shailene is now feeling much better and considers herself very healthy. She’s grateful to be in a good place and able to share that she has resolved the health issues she faced.
