Netflix has had a fantastic year with popular shows and movies like Adolescence, Wednesday, and Happy Gilmore 2. However, one animated musical released in June has truly stood out. It quickly became Netflix’s most popular original movie ever, and it’s now broken another streaming record – a record that may never be broken!
The movie *KPop Demon Hunters* has become a massive hit on Netflix, exceeding 500 million hours watched and solidifying its place as one of the platform’s most popular titles. Netflix’s Tudum reports the film, featuring K-pop stars turned demon hunters Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, has been viewed for over 541 million hours by 325 million accounts. This impressive performance puts it well ahead of *Red Notice*, the 2021 action comedy starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot, which has accumulated 454 million hours watched and 230 million views.
Given the massive success of *KPop Demon Hunters* and how many people are watching it on Netflix, it’s going to be difficult for any other show to reach the same level of popularity.
KPop Demon Hunters Can’t Stop Breaking Records
Netflix’s *KPop Demon Hunters* has quickly become a huge success, and it’s still going strong. Originally a Sony film, Netflix acquired it for streaming release in June, and it immediately became a major hit. The movie recently reached a new peak in viewership, continuing a string of impressive achievements.
By July, *KPop Demon Hunters* was the most popular animated film on Netflix. A month later, it became the most-watched film *ever* on the platform, racking up over 236 million views. The movie also had a limited release in theaters, earning between $18 and $20 million and becoming the first Netflix film to reach number one at the box office. Its success didn’t stop there – *KPop Demon Hunters* made Billboard chart history with four songs simultaneously in the top 10: HUNTR/X’s “Golden” and “How It’s Done,” and Saja Boys’ “Your Idol” and “Soda Pop.”
I’ve been watching this summer’s biggest hit, and it’s absolutely crushing records! It looks like it’s going to stay on top as Netflix’s most popular movie for a while. Netflix has some really promising films coming up, like Guillermo del Toro’s *Frankenstein* and *Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery*, and I’m sure they’ll be popular too. But honestly, I don’t think anything else will capture the same magic as *KPop Demon Hunters*. The only thing that might even come close is the planned sequel, but we’ll have to wait a while for that to come out.
You can now watch *KPop Demon Hunters* on Netflix, along with a sing-along version and lyric videos.
