The season finale of *Peacemaker* aired on Thursday and set up significant events for the future of the DC Universe. According to James Gunn, these consequences will be explored in the upcoming HBO series, *Lanterns*.
What is Lantern’s connection to the Peacemaker Season 2 finale?
The second season of Peacemaker ended with Chris Smith, also known as Peacemaker (John Cena), starting his own organization called Checkmate – a group with a long history in DC Comics, originally connected to Task Force X. Meanwhile, Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo) solidified his role as the villain by kidnapping Chris and trapping him in “Salvation,” a reality-bending prison he plans to use for superpowered individuals.
In a recent interview with Screen Brief, DC Studios’ James Gunn shared that the finale of their current show will be crucial for setting up both the upcoming “Man of Tomorrow” movie and the broader future of the DC Universe. He also highlighted that the upcoming HBO series, “Lanterns,” will be connected to all other projects within the DCU.
Gunn explained that ‘Lanterns’ is actually quite related to everything else, even if it doesn’t immediately appear that way. He emphasized how interconnected it all is.
Gunn also revealed that the ‘Salvation’ prison will be important in future DCU stories, allowing him to examine how supervillains will attempt to build a new society for themselves.
