Ridley Scott’s classic science fiction movie is gaining popularity again, a decade after its initial release. It features performances by Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain.
According to FlixPatrol, as of October 10, 2025, *The Martian* is currently the seventh most popular movie on Netflix in the United States. The film has been performing well, entering the top ten at number ten on October 6th, then climbing to seventh on October 7th and fifth on October 9th. It’s competing with other popular movies like the film at number four, Jim Carrey’s *The Mask* at number six, and *Casper* at number eight. *The Martian* stars Matt Damon as an astronaut fighting for survival after being stranded on Mars during a mission.
Directed by Ridley Scott and written by Drew Goddard (known for *Buffy the Vampire Slayer* and *Lost*), *The Martian* is based on the novel by Andy Weir. Matt Damon stars in the lead role, and the film also features Jessica Chastain as Commander Melissa Lewis, who leads the Ares III mission. Jeff Daniels, Kristen Wiig, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sean Bean, Michael Peña, Kate Mara, and Mackenzie Davis round out the main cast.

Ridley Scott’s Next Film is Another Sci-Fi Novel Adaptation
A decade after his hit film *The Martian*, director Ridley Scott continues to create impressive science fiction movies. His newest film, *The Dog Stars*, is written by Mark L. Smith (known for *The Revenant*) and Christopher Wilkinson (*Ali*), and it’s based on Peter Heller’s 2012 novel.
Following a devastating flu pandemic that has decimated the population, the film *The Dog Stars* centers on Hig, a pilot, and Bangley, a former Marine, as they encounter a new threat. The movie also stars Margaret Qualley, Guy Pearce, and Benedict Wong, and is slated to be released on March 27, 2026.
