Batman, the DC Comics hero, is known for always planning ahead, even for worst-case scenarios involving his Justice League teammates. He understands that if any of them were to misuse their incredible powers, they’d be nearly impossible to stop. Driven by his cautious nature, Batman has secretly devised detailed plans to counter each teammate’s weaknesses – both physical and mental. These plans range from disabling them to, in extreme cases, eliminating them, all to prevent them from ever harming others. He’s even created contingencies to stop himself, just in case he were ever to lose control.
Batman has a strict rule against torture and killing, but his secret plans often involve eliminating his friends if they become compromised. These contingency plans, designed to deal with rogue heroes, were unfortunately stolen by the villain Ra’s al Ghul, nearly costing the Justice League their lives. While these plans might seem logical considering the power of his teammates, they frequently have disastrous results and reveal how Batman’s extreme preparedness and distrust can verge on obsessive behavior.
10) Infecting Cyborg with a Virus
In the alternate universe of *Injustice*, Batman’s deep-seated distrust of others is clearly shown through a plan he creates to take down Cyborg. After Superman becomes a villain and enlists heroes like Cyborg to help him conquer the world, Batman prepares a contingency plan. During a confrontation, Batman activates a virus he secretly installed in Cyborg, significantly weakening him. What’s truly shocking is *when* Batman put the virus in place – during their first week of knowing each other. This highlights how Batman fundamentally trusts no one and is always prepared to neutralize even his allies, from the very beginning of their relationships.
9) Making Green Lantern Blind
Green Lantern’s ring lets him create anything he imagines, but Batman found a way to weaken him by disrupting his connection to it. While Green Lantern was asleep, Batman subtly suggested he was blind. Because the ring reacts to his thoughts, this suggestion became real, effectively causing him to lose his sight. Without vision, Green Lantern struggles to create the constructs he needs, leaving him nearly powerless. It’s a strange way to defeat a hero, but it worked when Ra’s al Ghul used this plan against Green Lantern Kyle Rayner.
8) Sabotaging Atom’s Shrinking Belt
Atom’s ability to shrink down to microscopic size is incredibly dangerous and difficult to defend against. He could potentially enter someone’s body and destroy them from within. If Atom ever turned evil, Batman has a plan to disable the belt that gives him this power. However, the plan is extremely risky, with two potentially fatal results: either Atom would shrink endlessly, or the belt would create a tiny black hole, destroying him. Because both options would kill Atom, Batman is trying to find a way to stop him without causing permanent harm.
7) Freezing Plastic Man
Batman considers Plastic Man incredibly dangerous and unpredictable because of his ability to stretch and reshape his body into anything. Batman’s plan to stop him involved completely freezing him with liquid nitrogen, hoping he’d stay frozen forever. However, Ra’s Al Ghul actually carried out this plan, shattering Plastic Man into fragments. Even after reforming himself from this frozen state, Plastic Man was deeply traumatized, losing his usual sense of humor. The most disturbing part was that he remained fully aware and unable to move throughout the entire ordeal, showcasing how truly horrifying Batman’s contingency plan was for him.
6) Turning Wonder Woman’s Fighting Spirit Against Her
Wonder Woman is unique among heroes like Superman and Martian Manhunter because she doesn’t have a specific weakness due to her Amazonian heritage and combat skills. However, Batman created a plan to stop her by targeting her unwavering determination. He would inject her with tiny machines called nanites, trapping her in a realistic virtual world where she’s forced to battle an unbeatable foe. Because she would never give up, Wonder Woman would fight endlessly, ultimately exhausting herself to the point of collapse. This complex and disturbing plan doesn’t rely on physical force, but instead uses Wonder Woman’s greatest strength – her relentless spirit – against her.
5) Giving Aquaman Aquaphobia
Aquaman needs to stay hydrated to maintain his strength and survive. As a precaution, Batman devised a plan using a fear toxin created by the villain Scarecrow. Batman altered the toxin to give Aquaman an intense fear of water. Even a small amount of water would cause Aquaman to panic if exposed to the gas, effectively disabling him. Without treatment, this fear would have eventually led to dehydration and death for Aquaman.
4) Forcing Superman to Experience Sensory Overload
Everyone knows Batman uses Green Kryptonite against Superman, but he has an even more extreme plan. Batman developed a special Red Kryptonite that makes Superman’s skin see-through. This prevents Superman from controlling how much solar energy he absorbs, causing his powers to grow rapidly. While this might seem counterproductive, it also massively increases Superman’s senses, overwhelming him with constant, agonizing pain. This doesn’t kill Superman, but the unbearable sensory overload completely disables him. Batman’s willingness to inflict such torment on a friend highlights just how determined he is.
3) Covering Martian Manhunter in Ever-Burning Nanites
Martian Manhunter is incredibly powerful, but he’s particularly vulnerable to fire. Batman has a disturbing contingency plan to take advantage of this weakness. It involves injecting Martian Manhunter with tiny machines that would turn his skin into magnesium, causing it to instantly burst into flames when exposed to air. This would leave Martian Manhunter constantly and agonizingly on fire. It’s a truly shocking plan to essentially burn a friend alive indefinitely.
2) Causing Flash to Have a Seizure
As part of a backup plan, Batman created a weapon capable of inflicting extreme pain, even on the incredibly fast Flash. This weapon, called the “vibra-bullet,” was designed to counteract the Flash’s speed by causing agonizing, light-speed seizures when it struck his spine. It was also specifically engineered to prevent the Flash from phasing through it. The full horrifying effect of the vibra-bullet became clear when Ra’s al Ghul used it on Wally West. Wally said he begged for death during the ordeal, but his teammates later revealed the bullet was only lodged in him for 22 minutes. This meant that, had it not been removed, the vibra-bullet would have subjected Wally to what felt like lifetimes of torture before ultimately killing him.
1) Building a Robot to Kill Himself
Batman always plans for the worst, even the possibility of becoming a villain himself! Hidden within his mind is a separate personality called the Batman of Zur-En-Arrh. This alternate self created a robot named Failsafe specifically to stop Batman if he ever lost control. When the Penguin falsely accused Batman of murder, Failsafe sprang into action, attempting to eliminate the Dark Knight. Knowing Batman’s every weakness, Failsafe nearly killed him and the entire Justice League. It then aided Amanda Waller in starting a war against superpowered individuals during the events of *Absolute Power*. It’s a crazy idea to build a robot to kill yourself, but it’s perfectly in line with Batman’s way of thinking.
