While Battlefield 2042 eventually improved after a rocky start, the launch of Battlefield 6 has been significantly more successful, easily surpassing its predecessor.
The game is already performing exceptionally well, and with the first season of post-launch content planned for release in just a few weeks, EA is confident it will maintain this success.
So, just how popular has it been? Let’s dig into the data.
How are the Battlefield 6 sales numbers?
Although EA hasn’t publicly shared sales figures yet, industry experts believe Battlefield 6 is launching very successfully.
I was reading Rhys Elliott’s newsletter from Alinea Analytics (Gamespot pointed me to it!), and he shared some incredible news! Apparently, the game already sold 1.8 million copies on Steam *before* it even launched, which brought in over $100 million in revenue. That’s amazing!
According to Elliott, everything indicates that the Battlefield series is regaining its popularity. He believes a combination of long-awaited demand—after several disappointing releases—and a compelling story of redemption are setting the stage for a significant resurgence.
It’s tough to predict if it will be more popular than Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, which comes out next month, but Battlefield is definitely making a strong comeback.
How are the Battlefield 6 Steam Chart numbers?
Fortunately, we have data from Valve’s Steam platform for PC gamers, as well as resources like Steam Charts by SteamDB, to help us understand the situation.
Currently, this game is the most popular, with over 230,000 players online as of this morning. It’s seen even higher numbers recently, peaking at over 656,000 players in a single day, and a total of 747,000 players overall.
That number ranks it 14th, performing better than free-to-play games like Counter-Strike 2 and Lost Ark, and surpassing Call of Duty’s peak and even the highly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong. It also had a stronger launch than other popular new shooters like Marvel Rivals and Apex Legends, though Apex Legends was released on EA’s platform before coming to Steam.
While Battlefield 6 had a very strong launch, it currently ranks fourth for peak concurrent players of all time, following Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, and PUBG Battlegrounds. It’s quickly gaining ground and could soon move into third place.
What is the Battlefield 6 player count peak?
While these aspects are certainly positive, they don’t consider all the different ways players can experience EA’s popular shooting game.
As a big fan, I’m really curious about how well this game will do on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S – I have a feeling it’s going to be huge on those consoles! Unfortunately, we don’t have any sales numbers for those platforms yet. It’s a shame it’s not coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, though, as that would have been great too.
The game is available on multiple platforms for PC, including the Epic Games Store and EA’s own store. EA Play Pro subscribers can even access a special ‘Phantom Edition’ as part of their monthly membership, which could attract more players.
We’ll let you know if EA shares any information about how many people are playing, but right now, Battlefield seems to be doing very well and is experiencing a comeback.
