10 Characters Who Should Be Wonder Woman Villains

Wonder Woman is a major DC Comics hero, considered part of the company’s core trio of characters, and arguably the most significant female superhero ever created. First appearing in 1941, she’s evolved from a World War II fighter to a key defender of the entire multiverse as a member of the Justice League. Originating from a hidden, magical island, Wonder Woman promotes love, peace, and truth in a troubled world. While she’s the definitive superheroine, her supporting cast of villains isn’t nearly as memorable. Though she has a few truly great enemies, many of the villains she faces are relatively unremarkable.

We’re tackling the question of who would make great enemies for Wonder Woman by highlighting ten characters perfectly suited to challenge her. It’s likely Wonder Woman has encountered some of these individuals in the past – given her long history, that’s bound to happen. However, we’re focusing on characters who could consistently serve as major villains for her, not just those she’s fought once or in team-up events. Here are ten potential Wonder Woman villains, with five from DC Comics and five from Marvel.

10) Black Adam

Black Adam was once the chosen champion of the Wizard Shazam, gaining incredible powers from ancient Egyptian gods. He’s since become one of DC’s most powerful and fearsome villains, ruling the nation of Kahndaq with absolute control and frequently clashing with the Justice League. His divine origins make him a natural rival for Wonder Woman, who draws power from Greco-Roman mythology, and their contrasting personalities create a compelling dynamic. Black Adam believes in ruling through force, while Wonder Woman champions peace and understanding. They’re equally powerful, both incredibly skilled in combat and wielding divine magic. Their battles are always spectacular, and fans would love to see them fight more often.

9) Enchantress

Enchantress is usually an enemy of Thor, but she’d fit right in as one of Wonder Woman’s villains. As a powerful Asgardian sorceress, she constantly tries to conquer Asgard or Earth. Her magical abilities and divine background would make her a great addition to Wonder Woman’s gallery of foes, especially since Wonder Woman often battles other magic users. Enchantress relies on deception and control, while Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth forces honesty – they’re perfect opposites. Wonder Woman would relish the chance to defeat Enchantress and free those she manipulates.

8) Ra’s al Ghul

Although Ra’s al Ghul isn’t physically strong enough to defeat Wonder Woman, their conflicting beliefs are fascinating and I’d like to see them clash. Wonder Woman left her home to help humanity, while Ra’s believes the Earth would be better off if he drastically reduced the human population, allowing nature to heal. Both characters ultimately desire a perfect world, but their approaches are polar opposites. Wonder Woman believes in understanding and acceptance, while Ra’s has given up on people and wants to start over through destruction. A confrontation between them wouldn’t be a typical fight – Diana could easily win – but a battle for public opinion, as they both try to convince people to support their vision.

7) Magneto

Like Ra’s al Ghul, Magneto believes he’s working towards a better world, but his methods are deeply flawed. While he’s become more heroic recently, he used to be incredibly unstable and repeatedly tried to eliminate humanity. Wonder Woman could truly understand Magneto’s struggles and past, and that shared understanding would make their confrontations especially compelling as she tries to convince him there’s a more peaceful path to change. It would also be fascinating to explore how their experiences during WWII shaped them – Magneto survived a concentration camp, while Diana fought against the Nazis. This pairing has a lot of potential for emotional depth and exciting action, and it would be great to see a powerful fight alongside a thoughtful exploration of their beliefs.

6) Brainiac

Brainiac regularly battles Superman, so he’d certainly be a powerful opponent for Wonder Woman. What makes a fight between them truly compelling, though, is *why* he’d target her. Brainiac travels the galaxy, collecting a single city from each planet to study before destroying everything else. Themyscira, Wonder Woman’s home, would be a perfect target – a paradise on Earth offering unique knowledge about the Amazons that he couldn’t find anywhere else. A storyline where Brainiac kidnaps the entire island could be fantastic, giving us exciting sci-fi and fantasy adventures as he tries to understand Wonder Woman’s world.

5) Doctor Doom

Doctor Doom is arguably Marvel’s greatest villain, blending science and magic in a way that few others do. This makes him a compelling opponent for Wonder Woman. While Doom doesn’t need much of a reason to fight, a conflict with Wonder Woman would be easy to justify. He might try to prove that his country, Latveria, is a superior society to Wonder Woman’s home, Themyscira, leading to a confrontation. Seeing the harsh realities of Latveria, Wonder Woman would clash with Doom, a notorious dictator, creating a powerfully thematic and intense rivalry between a champion of freedom and a ruthless ruler.

4) Poison Ivy

Poison Ivy, like some other villains, wants to drastically and violently reshape the world, and she’s skilled at manipulating others. She’s also become physically strong enough to challenge Wonder Woman – starting as a typical Batman foe, Ivy has gained immense power, especially over plants, rivaling even characters deeply connected to the Green like Swamp Thing. A fight between them would be as much about their ideologies as it would be a physical battle, as both would prefer to persuade the other to join their cause rather than resort to violence.

3) Mangog

Mangog is the embodiment of pure hatred, fueled by the negativity of countless beings, and he exists only to destroy every god in existence. This makes Wonder Woman a natural opponent, as the Amazons – her people – are divine creations blessed by the goddesses. As warriors dedicated to the gods, the Amazons would inevitably fight Mangog. A clash between Mangog and Wonder Woman would be a powerful battle: living hatred versus divine love, resulting in an epic and emotionally resonant conflict.

2) Terra

It might sound strange, but a Wonder Woman storyline featuring Terra could be incredibly compelling. Terra is primarily known for infiltrating the Teen Titans as Deathstroke’s spy, and since being resurrected, she hasn’t had much focus. A young, damaged, and emotionally vulnerable girl with immense power and a pessimistic outlook would be a fascinating opponent for Wonder Woman, who could attempt to redeem her. This setup could portray Terra as a deeply wounded individual, lashing out at the world and rejecting Diana’s attempts to help, all stemming from her traumatic experiences. This creates a heartbreaking villain that audiences would desperately want Wonder Woman to save, playing on emotional sympathy and building compelling drama.

1) Red Skull

As a huge movie buff, there’s one villain I’d *love* to see Wonder Woman go up against more than any other: Red Skull. Seriously, the clash would be amazing! They both have strong ties to World War II, obviously on opposite sides, but the *ideological* conflict is what really gets me. Red Skull is all about this twisted idea of a ‘master race,’ and Wonder Woman? She’s *literally* genetically superior, but also endlessly compassionate, even while taking down his forces. I can just picture the rage on his face realizing his biggest threat is this incredible woman – he’d absolutely lose it! Honestly, who *doesn’t* want to see Wonder Woman deliver some justice to more Nazis? Anyway, I’ve been thinking about potential Wonder Woman villains, and I came up with ten characters who I think would be fantastic. Of course, the comic universe is full of awesome options, so I’m curious what you all think. Let me know your picks!
