Matlock’s Leah Lewis Speaks Out After David Del Rio’s Firing

Leah Lewis is leaning on family.

Following allegations of sexual assault against her costar David Del Rio, Leah, who plays Sarah Franklin on the CBS series starring Kathy Bates, spoke to fans about the situation. Del Rio has been removed from the show.

She announced on Instagram on October 9th, in a post captured by Deadline, that her mother was with her. She added that they were moving forward with love and resilience, and that she felt supported and cared for, thanking everyone for their kindness.

Along with a picture of her embracing her mother, Lorraine Lewis, Leah shared, “We’re really getting stronger as we move ahead. Remember that—strength is what matters most.”

After the 28-year-old sent their message, David’s wife, Katherine Del Rio, responded to the drama and criticized Leah.

According to a screenshot published by *Us Weekly*, Katherine shared a close-up photo of Leah on her Instagram Story with the caption, “This is the most disturbing person I have ever met.”

Okay, so Katherine – she’s a mom to Lilia, who’s two, and little Coco, only seven months old, with David – well, she totally seemed to copy what Leah did! She actually *named* Leah in an Instagram Story she’s deleted now, basically calling her out. I screenshotted it before it disappeared, of course. It’s just… everything is so messy and I’m following every detail!

Katherine shared a photo of herself with her mother, along with a message saying they’re healing and staying strong after a difficult situation involving Leah. She expressed gratitude for the support they’ve received, as reported by Deadline.

As a big fan, I was really concerned when I heard David, who I loved as Billy Martinez on *Matlock*, was leaving a show. I tried reaching out to CBS and David’s representatives, as well as those for Leah and Katherine, hoping to get some answers, but unfortunately, no one got back to me. CBS did confirm that David was indeed leaving to several news sources, but they haven’t shared any details about why, which is really frustrating as a fan!

Even after David was let go—according to *Deadline*, this followed an internal review—production on *Matlock*’s second season continued until a planned break in mid-October. Filming is expected to resume after Thanksgiving.

Earlier in 2024, Leah thought about how people reacted to the first season of *Matlock*, which first aired in September.

She shared on Instagram on May 9th that it’s been wonderful connecting with people and sharing all the hard work and passion that went into creating the show. She especially enjoyed meeting fans after panels – those who truly understood and connected with the details, creating a really special and shared experience.

Leah explained that everyone involved with *Matlock* – the people who make the show, the actors, and the viewers – feels like a close-knit community.
