Stephen Graham is following up his book, Adolescence, with a new project called Letters to Our Sons. He’s currently asking for people to submit their writing for it, continuing an important discussion he began previously.
I’m really excited about this upcoming collection of letters. It’s all about fathers writing to their sons, sharing their wisdom and thoughts on what it means to grow up and become a man. Apparently, it’s a really diverse bunch, and a letter from Graham is included among them.
The Emmy-winning creator is working on a new project with Orly Klein, a psychology lecturer. The idea for the project came from a personal experience Klein had when her son was becoming a teenager.
The book will also include letters from everyday fathers. Publisher Bloomsbury is asking fathers from all backgrounds to submit their stories, hoping to create a truly significant and memorable collection.
According to the authors, the book encourages readers to write a letter offering advice to their younger selves, sharing the wisdom they’ve gained and their personal beliefs about what it means to be a man.
You don’t have to be a skilled writer – we simply want you to share your honest feelings. If you’re not sure what to write, we have some ideas to get you started.
You can remain anonymous if you prefer, and we will absolutely protect your son’s identity.

Graham and Klein talk about their book, Letters to Our Sons, in a video on Bloomsbury’s YouTube channel. You can find the official rules and submission details on the Bloomsbury website.
You know, working on ‘Adolescence’ – I starred in it and co-created it with Jack Thorne – really opened my eyes. It made me realize just how important it is for fathers and sons to actually *talk* to each other. It wasn’t just a project; it genuinely showed me the need for better communication between them.
He noted a growing distance between fathers and sons, and expressed his desire to help bridge that gap and encourage more open communication between them.
We’re looking for men of all ages to share their experiences with fatherhood – whether they’re new dads, estranged from their children, or simply want to express their love and connect with their sons. We want to hear honest conversations about what it means to be a man and a father.
Orly Klein shared that when her son turned thirteen, she asked several male friends to each write him a letter. These letters were meant to share their thoughts on what qualities make a good man and offer advice for his future.
The letters varied – some were humorous, others heartbreaking, but most were deeply considerate. A friend of both Stephen and myself suggested we connect after I told her about them, believing there was potential for a book within the correspondence.
She was aware that Stephen and I both deeply cared about solving the problems young men are facing now.
As a total book and movie lover, I was so excited to hear Bloomsbury talking about this new release! Their Head of General Books, Katy Follain, said it’s one of those rare projects they believe could really take off – not just as a book, but as something that sparks a bigger conversation and impacts culture. It’s that kind of potential that gets me really thrilled about a new title!
Stephen Graham, along with Orly Klein’s skills, is perfectly suited to write ‘Letters to Our Sons,’ a book that promises to be both impactful and essential, and could even make a real difference in people’s lives.
