The beloved TV show Byker Grove, which first made Ant and Dec famous, is coming back to television in November after 36 years.
The popular TV pair has been developing a new version of the teen show for some time, and it was recently announced that the original episodes will also be available on streaming services.
As a huge fan, I’m thrilled to hear that all 18 seasons of that amazing show – you know, the one set in a Newcastle youth club that ran on BBC One from 1989 to 2006 – will finally be available to stream! It’s been confirmed that it’s hitting ITVX on November 16th, and I can’t wait to binge-watch it all over again.
Byker Grove was praised for honestly portraying difficult topics like homophobia, drug use, abuse, and abortion. It’s also known for featuring what many believe was the first gay kiss on British children’s television – a moment between characters Noddy Fishwick and Gary Hendrix at the cinema.
The show also helped launch the careers of Ant & Dec, who first appeared as characters PJ and Duncan. They later continued as musicians under those same character names.
Donna Air and Jill Halfpenny both began their acting careers on the show, playing the characters Charlie Charlton and Nicola Dobson.

The show will be available to stream thanks to an agreement between ITVX and Mitre Studios, the production company owned by Ant & Dec, who hold the rights to the series.
ITV is excited to bring back cherished memories for viewers by streaming the very first appearances of beloved duo Ant & Dec on ITVX this November. According to Craig Morris, ITV’s Director of Channels, ITVX & Acquisitions, audiences have grown up watching Ant & Dec, making this a special trip down memory lane.
Dr. Ed Sleeman of Mitre Studios explained that the return of *Byker Grove* on ITVX is significant because the show is a TV classic. It famously launched the careers of Ant & Dec and had a big impact on a whole generation of viewers.
We’re still working on it,” Dec explained. “We hadn’t anticipated how lengthy making a drama would be, as we’re more accustomed to live television.
It takes a while, but we’re having a lot of fun with it. We’ve been discussing the plots and characters, imagining who might return and what their stories have been in the meantime. It’s been a really fascinating process.
