The popular manga *One-Punch Man*, created by ONE and illustrated by Yusuke Murata, was adapted into an anime series by Madhouse in 2015. It quickly became well-known around the world for its unusual main character and hilarious take on battles against powerful enemies. Surprisingly, Madhouse stopped working on the anime, and J.C. Staff, another respected animation studio, took over for Season 2 in 2019. While J.C. Staff was founded in 1986 and is a major studio in Japan, many felt their animation quality didn’t match that of Madhouse. Season 2 received mixed reactions from fans, but was still welcomed after a four-year wait. After that, it took another six years for Season 3 to be released. With such a long gap, expectations were high, but many viewers were unhappy with the animation, leading to a lot of discussion and criticism after it premiered on October 12, 2025.
Season three picks up with the Monster Association Arc, which is currently the longest story arc in the manga. It’s unclear whether the season will cover the entire arc, as the total number of episodes hasn’t been announced yet. Before the season even premiered, fans frequently commented on the work of J.C. Staff, and the animators were aware of this feedback. Vincent Chansard, a popular animator from *One Piece*, publicly supported the studio, pointing out the difficult conditions animators often face while working under tight deadlines.
Vincent Chansard Defends One-Punch Man Studio After Season 3’s Animation Controversy
I was watching a recent livestream with Requiem, and Chansard had a lot to say! We were mostly chatting about *One Piece*, but then the conversation turned to what’s been going on with J.C. Staff. He made a really good point – a lot of people are quick to blame the studio, but it’s rarely that simple. He explained it’s often not about the animation itself, but about the production committee overseeing everything – they have a huge influence too!
The animator explained that J.C. Staff is simply a studio focused on staying afloat in a notoriously challenging Japanese animation industry. They emphasized the current difficulties the studio is facing.
Chansard noted that fan pressure, especially from international audiences, is adding to the studio’s challenges. He also pointed out the ongoing problem of staff being harassed online by fans. While the Japanese animation industry is known for demanding schedules and overworking animators, Chansard clarified that production committees, who ultimately make key decisions, are often more responsible for these issues than the studios or animators themselves, despite them being the most visible targets.
Chansard is a highly-regarded animator best known for his incredible work on the *One Piece* anime, including iconic moments like the introduction of Gear 5 in Episode 1071 and the battle between Shanks and Eustass Kidd in Episode 1112. He’s also contributed to popular series like *Jujutsu Kaisen*, *Mob Psycho 100*, and *My Hero Academia: Vigilantes*, among others.
