Okay, huge warning: if you’re not caught up with the *One Piece* manga, spoilers ahead! As a massive fan, I’ve always been fascinated by how power works in Eiichiro Oda’s world. It’s built around two main things: Devil Fruits and Haki. Devil Fruits give you powers just by eating them, which is awesome, but Haki is different. It’s all about your willpower, and it comes in three flavors: Armament, Observation, and Conqueror’s. Conqueror’s Haki is super rare, but mastering *any* type of Haki takes serious dedication. Observation Haki is especially cool because it lets you sense what others are feeling and how strong they are. Lots of characters can use it to some degree, but the *really* skilled ones can unlock Future Sight – basically, a limited peek into the future! It’s an incredible ability and a game-changer when it appears in the story.
Future Sight is more than just advanced Observation Haki. While it’s not confirmed that only those with Conqueror’s Haki can develop it, all known users *do* share that ability. Powerful figures like Gol D. Roger, Silvers Rayleigh, Rocks D. Xebec, Edward Newgate, and Marshall D. Teach have demonstrated this potential. So far, *One Piece* has officially confirmed only four users, and we’ve ranked them based on their power.
4) Charlotte Katakuri
During the Whole Cake Island arc, Katakuri was the first character shown to completely master his ability to see into the future, giving Luffy a really tough battle. Already considered incredibly powerful as one of the Big Mom Pirates’ top commanders and with a bounty exceeding one billion berries, Katakuri proved even stronger than expected when he fought Luffy.
Katakuri has a limited ability to see a few seconds ahead, giving him a huge advantage in battles and letting him easily defeat his enemies. He’s also incredibly skilled with Haki, and he masterfully uses his Devil Fruit powers to trick opponents into thinking he can transform into a Logia type, even though his fruit is actually a Special Paramecia.
3) Monkey D. Luffy
Rayleigh explained that Future Sight isn’t something you can learn through practice – it appears when someone is truly tested in a fight. Luffy wasn’t able to develop it during training, but his battle with Katakuri forced him to unlock this ability. Although Katakuri might be better at using Future Sight itself, Luffy is the stronger fighter overall.
This is particularly noticeable since Luffy unlocked the full potential of his Devil Fruit power during his battle with Kaido in the Wano Country arc. Luffy consistently becomes more powerful with each fight, and now, in the Elbaf arc, he’s demonstrating improved control over all forms of Haki and his Devil Fruit abilities – though using them still requires a lot of energy.
2) Scopper Gaban
We’ve seen Gaban briefly in past memories, but the current Elbaf Arc is truly introducing him. He’s now about the same age as Rayleigh and lives in Elbaf with his giant wife, Ripley, and their son, Colon. When the Holy Knights invaded and took hostages, we finally saw how powerful he is. As the Pirate King’s right-hand man, he easily defeated a Holy Knight.
Gaban gave up fighting Gunko after having a terrifying vision of his son’s death. This suggests his ability to see the future is exceptionally powerful, allowing him to foresee events much further ahead than most. Even with Gear 5, Luffy would likely struggle against Gaban if Gaban were to fight at full strength, given his experience.
1) Shanks
As a huge One Piece fan, I’m convinced Shanks is on another level when it comes to Haki! We’ve already seen incredible displays of it from him, but honestly, I think that’s just scratching the surface of his power. His Observation Haki – that future sight ability – is seriously mind-blowing. He can see *way* further ahead than even someone like Katakuri, probably a full minute or more! And the craziest part? He doesn’t even *need* a Devil Fruit! Shanks defeats his enemies purely with his unbelievably strong Haki. It’s just phenomenal to watch.
Shanks possesses incredibly strong Conqueror’s Haki, capable of briefly disabling his opponents’ ability to foresee attacks – a skill that led to him being called the “Haki Killer.” When he met Eustass Kidd in Elbaf, it wasn’t even a real battle. Shanks glimpsed a terrifying future where Kidd’s sudden attack would destroy his crew. Reacting instantly, Shanks used his powerful technique, Divine Departure, to completely defeat the Kidd Pirates.
