Following the sad passing of creator Akira Toriyama, the anime *Dragon Ball Super* is currently paused. However, there are still many possibilities for continuing the story with new content. *Dragon Ball* remains a hugely popular action franchise, and it’s remarkable that it’s achieved this level of success even without a currently running manga or anime series. Many fans are hoping to see the *Dragon Ball Super* anime return with new episodes, or at least for the manga to continue from its break with new chapters.
Watching *Dragon Ball Super* end the Granolah arc felt like a real tease, especially with how it connected to the *Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero* movie and its expansion in the manga. It definitely opened up a few paths for where the story could go next. But honestly, with everything *Dragon Ball* has established about the multiverse, there are tons of directions they could take it and keep the series going for a long time.
7). Do Another Prequel Arc
Toyotaro, the artist behind the *Dragon Ball Super* manga, added extra content to the *Super Hero* arc, specifically focusing on Trunks and Goten before the events of the movie. He even created a new chapter during a break in the manga’s release to share another prequel story. While based on ideas originally from Akira Toriyama, this expansion is a compelling direction for the series. With so many characters, thereās plenty of room to develop stories and fill in the gaps between major arcs.
Dragon Ball Super picks up ten years after the Majin Buu saga, offering a chance to delve into what happened during that time. The series could reveal more about characters and events leading up to important storylines.
6). New Broly Arc
As a huge Dragon Ball fan, I was so excited for *Dragon Ball Super: Broly*! But honestly, the manga hasn’t really done much with that story yet. It feels like a missed opportunity, because the movie really set Broly up for something special, and the manga could really dive deeper into his journey. I mean, he’s now training with Goku and Vegeta on Beerus’ planet, and he’s already getting so much stronger and learning to control his incredible power! Itās amazing to see his progress and Iām hoping the manga will really explore all of that potential.
The film ended with a hint of what’s to come for Broly, and developing his story further could integrate him more fully with the Z Fighters. This would also address the storyline differences that have emerged between the anime and the manga, helping to align them once more.
5). Explore More of the Demon Realm
The new anime, *Dragon Ball Daima*, takes place before the events of *Dragon Ball Super*, opening up exciting possibilities for future storylines. A major addition from the series is a deeper exploration of the Demon Realm, which is revealed to be the original home of both the Namekians and the Supreme Kai. Their departure from this realm is what ultimately led to the creation of the wider multiverse, and this concept offers a lot of potential for future development and expansion of the *Dragon Ball* universe.
The story could introduce new villains directly from the Demon Realm, or connect them to existing characters who already have ties there. These new enemies could even gain unique powers fueled by the magic of that realm, similar to transformations like Gohan Beast or Super Saiyan 4. Thereās a lot of potential for exciting new developments.
4). Universes That Werenāt In the Tournament of Power
One of the most exciting possibilities left over from the original *Dragon Ball Super* series is the vast multiverse. The Tournament of Power didnāt include four universes because they were significantly more powerful ā they had a much higher āmortal levelā than anyone Goku and his friends fought. This means that even after Goku defeats Jiren, heād likely still be outmatched by opponents from those excluded universes.
To keep the story fresh, the writers could introduce villains from alternate universes, escalating the conflicts to an entirely new scale. Alternatively, Goku and his friends could travel to different universes themselves. All these options are possibilities.
3). Bringing in More Non-Canon Movies and Shows
Just as Akira Toriyama successfully reimagined characters like Broly and Super Saiyan 4, future creators of *Dragon Ball* can do the same with other characters who first appeared in non-official movies and TV shows. They can build upon those original introductions, using them as a starting point for new stories, or completely reinvent the characters and integrate them into the main *Dragon Ball* timeline.
Honestly, I think there’s so much great stuff already out there that we don’t need to start completely from scratch when creating something new. It’s way smarter to take something people already love ā a familiar villain or concept ā and give it a fresh twist. It’s a much easier way to connect with fans and build something amazing for the future, in my opinion!
2). Bring Back Jiren
It would be exciting to see popular characters like Jiren return for a new story. *Dragon Ball* often shines when it transforms former enemies into allies against a greater threat, and the series already hinted at Jiren potentially joining the heroes after his defeat. Bringing him back would not only allow fans to see how much stronger heās become, but also open up opportunities to explore the multiverse further. The series doesnāt need to create entirely new characters when thereās already a strong connection with established ones.
1). Black Frieza Arc
The most straightforward way to continue *Dragon Ball Super* would be to resume the story where it left off. The last major development in the Granolah the Survivor arc showed Frieza spending ten years training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber to reach a new, god-like power level. Now, in his Black Frieza form, he’s the strongest being in Universe 7. This is why Goku, Vegeta, and Broly were training with Beerus, and it would be a natural place to pick up the story again.
Watching Frieza become so powerful, and seemingly capable of anything, really opens up a lot of exciting possibilities for the future of *Dragon Ball Super*. I think a lot of fans, myself included, would be thrilled to see a new movie, manga arc, or anime season featuring Black Frieza. Itās hard *not* to be curious about what theyād do with a villain at that level.
