New details about Diane Keaton‘s death have emerged.
I was so saddened to hear about the passing of a true Hollywood icon. The incredibly talented actress, known for her unforgettable roles in films like *Annie Hall*, *Father of the Bride*, and *Something’s Gotta Give*, passed away at the age of 79 due to pneumonia. Her family shared the news with *People* magazine yesterday, and it’s a loss that will be felt by so many.
Diane’s family shared a statement saying they are incredibly thankful for all the loving messages and support they’ve received over the last few days.
She is survived by her two kids: Dexter, 29, and Duke, 25.
Diane Keaton generally preferred to keep her personal life private, but she once spoke about her feelings on death and what it would mean for her children.
She shared with AARP in 2012 that her father passed away at 68 and her mother began experiencing cognitive decline in her early 70s. Considering her children are now in their 20s and 30s, and she anticipates being in her 70s and 80s, she admits she’s concerned about facing similar health challenges as she ages, according to Parade.
Keaton explained that he wants to support his loved ones and be a positive influence in their lives. He also wants to remain healthy and pass on what he’s learned, but understands they also need the space to grow and figure things out for themselves.
Following the announcement of Keaton’s death on October 11th, many of her friends and former colleagues, such as Bette Midler from *First Wives Club*, paid tribute to the actress.
Midler shared on Instagram that her friend was incredibly funny, truly one of a kind, and refreshingly genuine, without any of the usual rivalry you might expect from someone so famous.
Kate Hudson, following in the footsteps of her mother Goldie Hawn who was in *First Wives Club*, shared a heartfelt message for Diane Keaton on Instagram, simply writing, “We love you so much.”
Kimberly Williams-Paisley, who played Keaton’s daughter in the movie *Father of the Bride*, shared memories of working with him.
She shared on Instagram how much she enjoyed working with Diane, calling it a true highlight of her life. She described Diane as a uniquely wonderful person and expressed gratitude for her kindness, generosity, talent, and especially her infectious laughter.
Mandy Moore, who played Keaton’s daughter in the movie *Because I Said So*, described working with her as an incredible honor, calling it “the honor of a lifetime.”
People always say you shouldn’t meet your heroes, but I was lucky enough to work with one of mine, and even got to call her ‘mom’ for a while. Di was an incredibly radiant person, and I’m heartbroken by her loss. It felt like she would always be here, sharing her amazing talent, charm, and incredible style!
“One of the very best to ever do it,” she concluded. “All my love to her children and loved ones.”
