Ethan Slater recently shared with TopMob what makes the new movie, *Wicked: For Good*, a must-see – and explained that the sequel isn’t aiming to be better than the original. Slater, who played Boq in the 2024 *Wicked* film, will return to the same role in *For Good*. The highly anticipated sequel, which continues the story of the popular Broadway musical, arrives in theaters on November 21st.
Ethan Slater recently discussed his return to the role of Boq in the upcoming movie, *Wicked: For Good*, while attending the premiere of *Gen V* Season 2. He currently appears in *Gen V*, a spin-off of *The Boys*, playing the character Thomas Godolkin, who is also the founder of God U.

Speaking about the upcoming *Wicked* movie, Slater hinted that the song ‘For Good’ is special and distinguishes it from the original. He emphasized that the sequel isn’t aiming to surpass the first film, but it will still be incredibly impactful and moving due to its complex story and characters.
TopMob here! The sequel to Wicked is on its way, and fans are really excited. What can you tell us about how this new movie will meet those high expectations? I was completely surprised by how much I loved the first one!
Ethan Slater believes the best part of this movie is that it doesn’t try to outdo or simply repeat the original. It’s not a traditional sequel either, but rather a continuation of the story. Because we already know and care about these characters, and we see them facing the results of their past choices, he thinks audiences will be surprised and really invested in what happens. He was particularly impressed by how much more complexity there is to the characters of Elphaba and Glinda.
As a huge fan of Wicked, I was so relieved to hear director Jon M. Chu explain why they’re making it into two films. He said it was the only way to really do the musical justice – to include all the songs, characters, and story parts we love without having to cut anything important!
The initial trailer for *Wicked: For Good* revealed that Ethan Slater’s character, Boq, will have companionship as the story unfolds.
As a huge movie fan, I’m so excited about the upcoming ‘Wicked’ film! It’s not just going to be about Elphaba and Glinda – Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are perfect casting, by the way – but we’re also getting Fiyero, played by Jonathan Bailey. And the sneak peeks! We finally saw Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard and Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, plus they’re bringing in Dorothy and all the classic characters like the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion. It’s shaping up to be a really magical adaptation!
As Slater explained, they’ll have to face the results of what they’ve done, ever since Elphaba decided to go against the Wizard and Morrible when she discovered they were responsible for the mistreatment of animals.
In the final scene of *Wicked*, Glinda offered Elphaba encouragement, but chose not to fly away with her and rebel against authority. Their goodbye was deeply sad, as Elphaba escaped on her broomstick, leaving Glinda behind to deal with what followed.
Although details about the story of *For Good* are being kept under wraps, fans are particularly looking forward to the new songs.
How Wicked 2’s Soundtrack Stacks Up
The music was a clear favorite part of the first *Wicked* movie for many viewers. Songs like “Defying Gravity,” “Popular,” “The Wizard and I,” and “Dancing Through Life” were especially memorable, brilliantly performed by Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, and Michelle Bailey, and successfully brought the beloved Broadway show to the big screen.
Now that the movie *Wicked: For Good* is coming out, everyone’s wondering if the music will be as good as the original’s soundtrack.
Moviegoers can enjoy beloved songs from Act 2 like “Thank Goodness,” “As Long as You’re Mine,” “No Good Deed,” and the touching duet “For Good.” The film also features two original songs created just for this adaptation.
