Many people had a feeling something bad would happen, but no one predicted it would be this frightening or perilous. Marie has unleashed a powerful force, and the consequences will unfold in the last episode of this comedic superhero show.
Now that Thomas Godolkin can achieve what he’s been working towards, Marie and her friends must try to stop him. The big question is: will his creation be stronger than he is?
The Monster Has Been Awakened
At the end of Episode 6, Marie began a crucial mission, and in Episode 7, she successfully found the body Cipher had been concealing. She tracked it by sensing his faint heartbeat. Once there, remembering Stan Edgar’s explanation that Godolkin aims to control Supes, Marie used her growing powers to revive Godolkin’s body. Ethan Slater returns to the role, thrilled to be able to walk, speak, and finish what he was sent to do. However, the mission isn’t what Marie and the others believed – it actually belongs to Cipher, and has been Godolkin’s plan all along.
It all becomes clear when you realize what’s happening in the other room, where Polarity and the team are fighting to stop Godolkin. As many viewers guessed, Godolkin was secretly controlling Cipher the entire time. Cipher isn’t a villain on his own – he’s actually a man named Doug, whose body and mind Godolkin hijacked back in the ’90s and has been using ever since. Once Godolkin is brought back to life, Doug, now himself, cries out on the floor, “I’m not him! He’s out of my head!” Doug is timid and scared – the complete opposite of the confident Cipher. Meanwhile, Marie and Cate watch in amazement as Godolkin returns, completely unaware of the consequences of what they’ve just witnessed.
Cate suddenly understands everything when Godolkin tells her, “Without our powers, we are nothing.” The comment hits hard, reminding her of something Cipher said before. She realizes what’s happening, and it all clicks into place. Godolkin explains they want people with genuine power on Earth, not just those who put on a show. Marie had hoped to find an ally against Cipher and Homelander, but she only managed to restore Godolkin to his original body. On the bright side, at least she saved Doug from being controlled.
Marie and her friends are facing their toughest challenge yet. Things are complicated by Marie’s recurring, disturbing vision of herself injured, and Annabeth is desperately worried about her sister’s dangerous plan to save everyone. Despite Annabeth’s fears, Marie is determined to act. She understands the immense power of both herself and her opponent, Godolkin, and feels responsible for the current situation. She’s convinced she must stop him, no matter the cost.

Now that Godolkin is back in his original body, he’s potentially more dangerous than when he was controlling Cipher, and Slater delivers an outstanding, dramatic performance as the villain. Our heroes must now defend their friends from Godolkin, who intends to eliminate Supes he deems worthless – putting many of the superpowered students at the school in danger.

What to Expect From Gen V Season 2, Episode 8
Now that Godolkin is searching the campus to identify and eliminate Supes he doesn’t consider valuable – just as Cipher predicted – Marie and her friends need to move fast if they want to protect innocent people with powers. However, they’ll only succeed if they cooperate.
It’s proving harder than expected. Marie still doesn’t trust Cate and won’t give her powers back, even though she’s able to. She’s afraid Cate will misuse them against their friends again. But if Annabeth’s vision is accurate, Marie is in real danger. Sister Sage tells Godolkin (while disguised as Cipher) that they were waiting for Marie’s return, and that a major sacrifice is now necessary. It’s unclear who or what that sacrifice will be.
The story also raises questions about potential allies, like Polarity. He managed to resist Godolkin – while disguised as Cipher – thanks to fluctuations in magnetic fields. Godolkin later realizes this was a mistake and is visibly frustrated. However, Polarity isn’t very powerful on his own. That changes when Marie uses her abilities to strengthen him, eliminating his tremors. It will be interesting to see how this restored power impacts the story going forward.
Each time Marie performs an amazing feat, she visibly pushes herself too far, even bleeding from the nose – a lot like Eleven in *Stranger Things*. Polarity notices this and feels guilty about Andre’s death, admitting he should have warned his son that his powers were harmful. He’s now worried the same thing could happen to Marie.
We’re left wondering about Stan and whether he was honest. Did he always know what Godolkin was planning? If Godolkin has been plotting this since the 1960s, it seems likely Stan would have known. Alternatively, maybe Godolkin’s goals have changed over time as he’s seen so many ineffective Supes, and Stan simply wasn’t aware. It also raises questions about Sage: what is she trying to accomplish, and is she stronger than Godolkin, or is he controlling her?
It leaves us wondering if Homelander will find out Godolkin is still alive and responsible for his creation back in the 1980s. Will this lead to a major showdown between them, either in *Gen V* or the final season of *The Boys*? Only time will tell. Whatever happens in the *Gen V* Season 2 finale, it’s likely to directly impact the story in *The Boys*.
