The cost of PlayStation consoles has recently gone up, similar to Xbox and Nintendo. But Sony is offering a perk to new PS5 and PS5 Pro buyers: a discount on PlayStation Plus Premium, their subscription service which was updated in 2022.
If you buy a PlayStation 5 or PS5 Pro right now, you’ll get three months of PlayStation Plus Premium included. This offer applies no matter where you purchase the console, as it’s automatically activated when you set it up – no codes are required. Normally, a three-month PlayStation Plus Premium subscription costs $49.99, so this is like getting a free game! This effectively cancels out the $50 price increase Sony recently made on all three console models.
How Does the PS Plus PS5 Deal Work?
This special offer is available from October 10th to October 21st, and new subscribers have until October 25th to take advantage of it. To qualify, you also need to activate your new PlayStation 5 console by October 21st – that means connecting it to the internet and completing the initial setup. Please note: this offer only applies if you choose the Premium subscription tier during console activation; selecting Essential or Extra won’t qualify you, as detailed in this Reddit post.
PlayStation Plus members will receive a link within five days of setting up their PS5, so this offer isn’t just for new PS5 owners—it’s especially helpful for those upgrading to a PS5 Pro. To claim the offer, existing members need to use the link by October 30th, which will add three months to their subscription. If you already have an Essential or Extra plan, your remaining time will be upgraded to Premium, plus the extra three months. Your subscription will then automatically renew based on whichever is longer: your usual renewal period or the added three months. You can disable auto-renewal in your account settings.
Right now, the PS5 Pro costs $749. The standard PS5 without a disc drive (825 GB) is $499, and the standard PS5 *with* a disc drive (1 TB) is $549. You can also find a certified refurbished standard PS5 with a disc drive and 1 TB of storage for $399. This price applies to all PS5 purchases, including newer bundles like *Ghost of Yotei* or *NBA 2K26*.
With the holidays approaching, Sony and other stores will probably offer more deals on consoles in the next month or two. But this current offer could be a good opportunity if you’re looking to buy a PS5 and save money on a PlayStation Plus subscription.
PlayStation Plus subscribers will have a good selection of games to enjoy in October. Those with Extra or Premium memberships will gain access to titles like *Yakuza: Like a Dragon*, the *Silent Hill 2* remake, *Tekken 3*, and the *Until Dawn* remake. The Essential tier will include *Alan Wake 2*, *Goat Simulator 3*, and *Cocoon*. Throughout the year, Extra and Premium have added many popular games, including *Blue Prince*, *The Rogue Prince of Persia*, *Crow Country*, *Mortal Kombat 1*, *Indika*, *Marvel’s Spider-Man*, *Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown*, *God of War Ragnarok*, and *Sword of the Sea*. While PlayStation Plus doesn’t get as many day-one releases as Game Pass, it still offers a solid lineup of highly-rated games.
