Pedro Pascal recently reflected on significant milestones of his career in an interview with Vanity Fair, except for his last scene featuring Bella Ramsey. Upon requesting the producers to skip this specific scene, he expressed, “I don’t want to watch it now.” He added that discussing the scene was fine, and then admitted candidly that revisiting it was tough due to the emotional farewell he felt towards Ramsey and the series. Pascal provided valuable insights into the scene, especially since he admitted he hadn’t seen the final version yet.
Pascal commented, laughing a little self-deprecatingly, ‘Today was both the most challenging and effortless day of work I’ve ever experienced.’ They spent the entire day filming this scene, and he felt a mix of emotions. The scene marked the end of his character Joel’s journey alongside Ellie, and the emotional climax as truths are revealed. Joel had to confess, tearing down all barriers in front of Ellie, finally saying things that he had been unable to utter before. Essentially, Joel was acknowledging the truth, a truth that would mean losing Ellie forever, but his love for her was so profound that he couldn’t deceive her any longer.
As a dedicated cinephile, I found myself deeply moved by a pivotal scene from “The Last of Us” Season 2, Episode 6, titled “The Price.” In this powerful sequence, Ellie confronts Joel and uncovers the truth behind his actions at the end of Season 1. In that instant, forgiveness eludes her, and though she yearns to mend fences, we both understand it as a tragic goodbye. For Pedro Pascal, who was departing the series, this scene seemed to strike an uncomfortably personal chord.
Near the conclusion of my filming for ‘The Last of Us’, Bella and I… It was incredibly intense, he explained. The day wasn’t easy, but we were pampered by Neil Druckmann, who was directing that episode. Bella and I share a deep connection, and this scene on the porch was the epitome of it. We supported each other throughout the day, immersing ourselves in the pain of the scene. By the end of the day, I felt completely drained.
Pascal continued, “As I knew my time on the show was wrapping up, I began contemplating the narrative – living through and understanding the intricacies of my connection with my co-star during our performances. The thought of causing them pain, of losing them, was devastating. It felt like the security of this relationship suddenly exposed all my emotions. It was a strange sensation, not knowing what parts will be included in the final edit, which is why I don’t want to watch it.
Currently, you can watch The Last of Us Season 2 on HBO Max. Meanwhile, Pascal will be featured in theaters starting later this month when The Fantastic Four: First Steps is released on July 25th.
