Who will be the new Duke of York?
Prince Andrew, King Charles III’s brother, has said he will stop using his royal titles, like Duke of York, because of ongoing accusations linked to his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex offender. However, a royal commentator noted that the title won’t automatically be given to someone else.
According to Sharon Carpenter, speaking exclusively to TopMob News, it’s possible Andrew’s royal titles could be given to someone else eventually. However, current rules state that dukedoms pass down through male heirs, and since Andrew doesn’t have a son, his daughters won’t inherit the title.
She explained that the title would probably return to the royal family when he passed away, and the King or Queen could then give it to a different person.
Sharon pointed out that although Prince Andrew will no longer use his royal titles officially, this change is mostly for show at the moment.
She explained that officially taking away his dukedom would be a complicated legal process, needing an act of Parliament. To legally remove his title before he died would require a vote in Parliament and a change to the law.
Following Andrew’s loss of royal titles, his former wife, Sarah Ferguson, will also no longer be known as the Duchess of York. Fortunately, their daughters, Princess Beatrice, 37, and Princess Eugenie, 35, will keep their titles as “Her Royal Highness Princess.”
Although Prince Andrew will keep the title of “Prince” because he is the son of the late Queen Elizabeth II, he is now expected to significantly reduce his involvement in Royal family events, stepping back from almost all public duties. He initially stepped back from public life in 2019.
According to Sharon, his daily routine will likely remain similar to what it’s been since 2019. However, it’s very unlikely he’ll be seen alongside any senior royals in public anytime soon. This means he’s expected to miss the traditional Christmas walk to St. Mary Magdalene Church, and likely for many Christmases to come.
According to a royal expert, this latest news about Prince Andrew effectively ends any chance of him returning to his royal duties.
Okay, so Andrew seems to be… dealing with everything, I guess? But honestly, the most important thing is he *still* says all those accusations are completely false. It’s like, finally, someone is sticking to their guns and saying what we all know – he would *never* do those things. It’s such a relief to hear him say it again and again, even with everything going on.
In his announcement, he stated, as he had before, that he strongly rejects the claims made against him.
