Shueisha’s *Weekly Shonen Jump* has cancelled another series this year, and more cancellations are expected. The magazine has seen significant changes recently, losing two long-running series within weeks of each other in 2024, followed by the conclusion of two more popular titles at the start of the new year. As a result, *Shonen Jump* is currently experimenting with different series in an effort to find its next big hit.
Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine has officially cancelled Jun Harukawa’s manga, *Kaedegami*, after just 17 chapters. This is the shortest run for a cancelled series in the magazine so far this year, making it the eighth series to end in 2025. Reports suggest at least two more series will be cancelled in the coming weeks.
Shonen Jump Cancels Kaedegami After 17 Chapters

As a big Shonen Jump fan, I’m honestly pretty bummed to hear that Jun Harukawa’s *Kaedegami* is ending. It’s the tenth series to get cancelled this year alone, which is a really quick turnaround – it’s tough when a promising new story gets cut short like this! *Kaedegami* had such a cool world built around Chinese mythology, and I really felt like the story had a ton of potential. It’s a shame we won’t get to see where things were going, especially with how the final battle just wrapped things up.
In a grim world overrun by human-eating monsters called Shenguai, a boy named Kou formed a bond with a particularly powerful one. This Shenguai had been torn apart by rivals, and Kou set out to collect the missing pieces and restore her full strength, battling several enemies along the way. Despite this compelling premise, the series only lasted 17 weeks in *Shonen Jump* and didn’t quite capture the audience’s attention.
What’s Getting Cancelled With Shonen Jump Next?
More cancellations are expected at Shonen Jump. Following the recent end of *Kaedegami*, the magazine has announced three new series launching soon, meaning at least two more existing series will be cancelled in the next few weeks to make space. It’s becoming harder to predict which series will be cut as the timeframe for these changes gets shorter.
Shonen Jump is known for canceling new manga series, sometimes even after a year or before they’ve been running for 20 weeks, as seen with *Kaedegami*. This means any series could be at risk if it isn’t gaining popularity with Japanese readers, so fans are encouraged to support the ones they enjoy. Interestingly, some canceled series have even gotten new anime adaptations, proving that cancellation isn’t always the end.
