Star of Canceled Comic Book Show Reveals Failed MCU Audition

Dev Patel, Matt Smith, and Adam Driver were all considered for the lead role of Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic) in the upcoming *Fantastic Four: First Steps* movie. Ultimately, the part went to Pedro Pascal, known for his work in popular projects like *Triple Frontier*, *The Last of Us* (seasons 1 & 2), and *The Mandalorian*. Reed Richards is expected to be a central character in the film.

Tom Ellis, known for his role in the popular show *Lucifer*, revealed he auditioned for the part of Reed Richards. He told Square Mile he was looking for the right role at the right time, and felt he bore a strong resemblance to the comic book character. “I remember looking at the photo of Richards in the comics and thinking, ‘This could be the one,'” Ellis said.

We Already Know What Came Of That Audition

So, I sent in my audition tape, feeling pretty good about it, only to find out Pedro Pascal – yes, *the* Pedro Pascal from *Game of Thrones* – landed the role of Mr. Fantastic. I had to laugh, honestly, because the character doesn’t have a ton of screen time! But seriously, he’s a fantastic actor, and I’m genuinely excited to see what he does with it; the trailer looks like a blast. Pascal himself described getting the part as a huge honor, like reaching the top of a mountain. He emphasized how lucky he feels to be working with such a strong team – the cast, the crew, and the writers – and how much that support helps him manage the pressure and enjoy the experience. He really leaned on his collaborators to stay grounded and confident, and that’s a smart approach when you’re taking on a role of a lifetime.

Ellis shared that losing out on exciting roles is tough, but it’s a natural part of the acting profession. She believes everyone in the industry still holds onto their original dreams, and if they don’t, they might be too jaded or in the wrong field.
