Period dramas, such as the new series The Forsytes, are incredibly popular, and a major reason is the stunning attention to detail in their costumes, sets, and filming locations.
The television series, The Forsytes, takes viewers to Victorian England and introduces the wealthy Forsyte family, who run a successful stockbroking business.
The show boasts a talented cast, with performances from Francesca Annis, Stephen Moyer, Jack Davenport, Tuppence Middleton, Millie Gibson, and Eleanor Tomlinson.
Wondering where the show was filmed, or if you recognize any of the settings? We’ve put together a complete guide to all the filming locations and sets.
Read on for everything you need to know about the filming locations used for The Forsytes.
Where is The Forsytes set?
The novel *The Forsytes* takes place in 1880s London and centers on the wealthy Forsyte family, who own a successful stockbroking company called Forsyte & Co.
This story is adapted from John Galsworthy’s novels, The Forsyte Saga, which were also turned into a TV series on ITV back in 2002.
Where was The Forsytes filmed?

I learned that even though *The Forsytes* is supposed to take place in London, most of it was actually filmed at The Bottle Yard Studios in Bristol. They also shot on location around Bristol between May and August of 2024.
The production team created interior sets at The Bottle Yard Studios to represent several key locations, including Jolyon Forsyte’s home in Richmond Park (Robin Hill), Soames Forsyte’s house on Montpelier Square in Knightsbridge, the offices of the law firm Forsyte & Co, Louisa Byrne’s cottage, and Philip Bosinney’s office.
Filming took place in and around Bristol, with locations like Christmas Steps made to look like the Montmartre district of Paris in the 1880s. St Mary Redcliffe Church also featured, serving as the church seen in the first episode.
Filming for Soho street scenes took place on All Saints Lane, Denmark Street, Hobbs Lane, Orchard Lane, Frog Lane, and Frogmore Street. Cafe scenes were shot in Tailor’s Court, while The Mahogany Parlour at the University of Bristol’s Goldney House stood in for a Gentleman’s Club. Dowry Square in Hotwells is another key location featured in the production.
The exteriors of buildings on Vyvyan Terrace and Christchurch Road served as the homes of the main characters. Scenes involving characters walking and talking were filmed at Blaise Castle Estate, and Ashton Court Estate provided the backdrop for park and polo field scenes.
The boxing scene in episode 1 was filmed at Arnos Vale Cemetery, inside a beautiful, historic chapel that’s officially a Grade II* listed building.
Ronnie Castillo, Production Head at Mammoth Screen, shared that The Bottle Yard Studios feels like a second home to their company. They’ve filmed many projects there over the past ten years and consistently return because Katherine, Emma, and the whole team provide exceptional support and make everyone feel welcome throughout the production process.
The studios are adaptable, reasonably priced, and environmentally friendly, plus they’re conveniently located near beautiful scenery and a skilled team. We’re excited to film at The Bottle Yard Studios in Bristol again.
