Jennifer Hudsonis telling you she’s not goin’ away from Common.
Almost two years after publicly acknowledging her romance with the artist behind the hit song “Glory” on her talk show, the former American Idol contestant shared what she believes keeps her relationship with the rapper strong.
Jennifer explained to TopMob News reporter Will Marfuggi at the Daytime Emmy Awards on October 17th that her Chicago background is central to their connection. She described them as kindred spirits, praising his character and expressing genuine respect for who he is.
Also, Jennifer Hudson, host of The Jennifer Hudson Show, shared that the Oscar winner is always a pleasure to spend time with. Hudson was nominated for both Daytime Talk Series Host and the show itself at the ceremony.
“He’s a blessing,” she continued. “A light. That man is a light.”
Common, whose full name is Lonnie Rashid Lynn, feels the same way about Jennifer and has often spoken about how much he admires her.
He shared on the Mama, I Made It! podcast in July that this relationship is incredibly important to him – one of the greatest blessings in his life. He described it as a deep friendship and true partnership, saying you don’t fully understand what a real connection is until you experience it.
The 53-year-old, who used to date Tiffany Haddish, said he needed to mature and change as a person before he could start a new relationship.
He explained it felt like good things come when you’re personally prepared for them. He believed his personal growth happened at exactly the right time, coinciding with when he and Jennifer began to connect.
Common and Jennifer had met before, even working together on the movie Breathe in 2022, but he felt the moment wasn’t right for a romantic connection until now. He explained that they’d worked together previously, but this time felt different, allowing them to connect in a new way.
But even outside of their romance, he’s just as taken with her talent.
Common described the artist as incredibly talented, soulful, and gifted, praising their versatility and calling them one of the greatest singers ever.

The one where fans had no idea their favorite Friends couple actually had feelings for each other.
As a lifestyle expert, I was fascinated to hear during the recent Friends reunion that Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer actually had crushes on each other way back in season one! It’s so charming to learn that the on-screen chemistry wasn’t just acting – they were secretly harboring feelings for each other while filming the very beginning of the show. It really adds another layer to those early episodes, doesn’t it?
As Schwimmer shared, he had a big crush on Jennifer Aniston during the first season of the show. Aniston playfully responded that the feeling was mutual.
So why didn’t Ross and Rachel’s real-life counterparts ever officially get together?
Schwimmer shared that they both had feelings for each other at one time, but the timing never quite worked out. One of them was always seeing someone else, so they never acted on their attraction. They both understood and respected each other’s boundaries, though – and secretly, they both…
Oh my god, when Matt LeBlanc spoke up, I almost died! He was like, ‘No way, that’s ridiculous!’ but then immediately added he was joking. And then…then he hinted that maybe, maybe there was a little bit of on-set romance between the cast! I KNEW it! He totally thinks they had a little PDA going on, and honestly, it makes my ship even more real!
You know, I was joking with David once, saying how awful it would be if our first kiss happened on live TV. And wouldn’t you know it, that’s exactly what happened! Our very first kiss was actually in that little coffee shop – it was a bit surreal, honestly!
Schwimmer and Aniston admitted to having a close connection while filming the show. Schwimmer recalled moments during breaks where they would cuddle on the couch, and Aniston added that they sometimes even fell asleep spooning.
Schwimmer finally confessed he wondered why everyone hadn’t noticed he and Jennifer Aniston had crushes on each other.
The stars of The Big Bang Theory surprised fans in 2010 with news of their two-year relationship, and Kaley Cuoco only shared details about it after they broke up.
Kaley Cuoco revealed in an interview with CBS Watch! magazine that her relationship with Johnny Galecki was a significant part of her life, yet they kept it completely private. She described it as a great relationship, but one they never discussed publicly or pursued in public.
Even after Johnny Galecki and Kaley Cuoco ended their real-life relationship, their characters, Penny and Leonard, stayed together on The Big Bang Theory until the show finished. The actors had no problem portraying a couple, despite their breakup.
She explained that, given these two professionals had worked since childhood and always kept their personal lives private, they wanted to handle things very discreetly. She also suggested this intense privacy might have unintentionally contributed to their split.
Kaley Cuoco explained that she and her co-stars were very careful and wanted to protect both themselves and the show from anything that could go wrong. However, she admitted that this caution also made things difficult. She realized she didn’t want a relationship built on secrecy, saying, ‘I don’t want to be hiding.’
What you saw on screen with the Saved By the Bell characters’ relationships was only the tip of the iceberg. The real romantic drama happened behind the scenes.
Looking back, everyone on the show dated each other at some point – it was a very close-knit group! Gosselaar described it as a bit like high school drama, where the girls would sometimes team up against the guys. He recalled Tiffani and Elizabeth both being upset with him, then turning on Lark because he was talking to him, and Mario feeling pressured to take sides. It was all reminiscent of the typical ‘who are you talking to?’ conflicts you’d see in high school.
Throughout the run of Saved by the Bell, Zack Morris actor Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Tiffani Thiessen, who played Kelly Kapowski, were the longest-lasting couple from the show, dating for three years.
According to Ed Alonzo, who played Max on the show, actors Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Tiffani Thiessen, known as Zack and Kelly on TV, had a definite connection while filming their popular ’90s series. He shared this with Entertainment Tonight.
“It was very cute,” Alonzo shared. “It was hand-holding and looking over.”
In a recent interview with People magazine, Thiessen shared a story about her first time trying alcohol. She was in Paris with Mark-Paul Gosselaar for a press tour, and he was the one she shared that experience with. She described the trip as feeling like a real-life fairytale, almost as if they were Barbie and Ken – or maybe even Zack and Kelly from Saved by the Bell.
Zack Morris, the character from Saved By the Bell, revealed in a 2019 interview on Anna Faris’s Unqualified podcast that he had dated all three of the show’s main female characters, including a short romance with Tiffani Thiessen’s character, Kelly Kapowski.
He described the feeling of being on set, especially when you’re starting out. It’s a unique experience—you’re essentially working and living in a world of its own, cut off from everything else.
No wonder Zack had to call so many time outs.
Though Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley’s characters were famously a couple on Saved By the Bell, Lopez shared in his memoir, Just Between Us, that he actually dated Tiffani Thiessen in real life.
I was so invested in their relationship! He described how they’d go on dates – movies, dinners, parties, all the fun stuff – and eventually became a couple. But then things got complicated. Lopez confessed he cheated, and it was heartbreaking. He said he wanted to be loyal to Tiffani, that he felt it was the right thing to do, but he honestly admitted he just wasn’t mature enough at the time to actually follow through with those good intentions. It was a really honest, if painful, admission.
How intense was the real-life relationship between the stars of Beverly Hills, 90210? It really depends on who you talk to.
In a 2020 podcast interview, Tori Spelling discussed her experiences working with Brian Austin Green, referencing their characters David and Donna from ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’. She explained that she and Brian have differing recollections of their time together, both on and off camera. Spelling attributed this to them seeing things differently as younger individuals – essentially, she and Brian each had their own perspective based on their ages and experiences at the time.
She laughed, saying it was strange because she clearly remembered a summer romance where they both said “I love you.” He, however, had a completely different recollection, claiming they just hooked up and were friends. She found it amusing, simply responding, “Okay, cool,” and still feels that way now.
On a 2015 episode of Celebrity Lie Detector, Tori Spelling confessed she had always been in love with Brian Austin Green. She also revealed she once kissed Luke Perry and had a brief summer romance with Jason Priestley. Priestley responded to the news with a tweet saying he wouldn’t discuss it, stating it was a private matter.
Before marrying Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds famously kissed Melissa Joan Hart after working together on the 1996 TV movie, Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
In her 2013 memoir, actress Melissa Joan Hart shared a story about how her co-star, Ryan Reynolds, gave her a watch on the last day of filming when he played Sabrina’s crush. After that, they ended up kissing back at her hotel room.
Oh my gosh, I can still picture it so vividly! His lips… just amazing. And he was so much bigger than me – those huge hands and broad shoulders just completely enveloped me, it was incredible. Honestly, it was a little distracting, though. He really went heavy on the hairspray, and the scent was… noticeable, to say the least. But even that couldn’t ruin the moment!
I was so excited to finally hear Kelly Clarkson confirm what fans like me have suspected for years! Apparently, she and Justin Guarini did date, but it happened after the show, not while they were competing on American Idol. It’s great to finally have that little mystery solved!
Everyone assumed we were dating during American Idol, but we weren’t actually together then,” she said on Watch What Happens Live in 2015. She then shared that they did briefly date while making their 2003 movie, From Justin to Kelly.
She explained that she believes anyone spending that much time with another person would likely end up dating. She playfully referenced the song ‘Timeless’ from the movie From Justin to Kelly, saying that some connections are just inevitable.
While filming Hannah Montana: The Movie in 2009, Cyrus quietly dated her on-screen love interest.
During interviews to promote their Disney film, Till revealed they had been dating for two months, sharing with an Atlanta radio station, ‘I think it will make the movie a little better because it was definitely real.’
After Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron broke up in 2010, she briefly dated her Journey 2: The Mysterious Island co-star. However, the public didn’t find out about their relationship until after they had already split up – and while they were promoting the film together.
In 2012, while appearing together on an Australian morning show, the former couple was asked how long they had been dating.
Oh my gosh, the silence felt like forever. You could just feel the tension as everyone waited for Hutcherson to say something, and when he finally did, it just…made everything ten times worse. It was painfully awkward, honestly. I could barely watch!
He said they used to be a couple, but she ended things – then quickly added he was joking, which made Hudgens laugh nervously.
