In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Mega Shards are a key currency. You’ll use them to buy Mega Stones and Exp. Candy at the Quasartico Inc. shop. Since there are 31 different Mega Stones available, and each one costs a lot of Mega Shards, you’ll need to collect several thousand of them to get what you need.
This guide will help you find and collect Mega Shards in Pokémon Legends: Z-A as fast and easily as possible.
Mega Crystal Farming
Large, pink crystal formations called Mega Shards can be found in different areas of the map. You need to use one of your Pokémon to break these crystals open and release the shards inside.
It can be frustrating if you don’t have the right Pokémon, because Mega Crystals are often found far apart, and your Pokémon’s powerful moves take a while to recharge between uses.
The best attacks are fast and recharge quickly, letting you use them repeatedly. Area-of-effect attacks can be useful, but they lose their effectiveness if they’re slow to execute or take a long time to become available again.
Okay, so when I’m building my Pokémon’s moveset, Extreme Speed is a total must-have. It recharges super fast – only three seconds – and hits really hard. Quick Attack and Bullet Punch are also good options with that same quick recharge time, but they don’t pack quite as much punch. I also like having moves like Ice Shard, Surf, Aqua Jet, and Shadow Sneak in the mix – they’re all really useful in different situations.
Mega Crystal Locations
- Up on the rooftops around Hotel Z. Simply climb the ladder behind the hotel and proceed along the path to find plenty of respawning crystals.
- Up on the rooftops of Wild Zone 9. A teleportable location that you can easily access on farming runs. Begin at the upper level and then descend to the lower, and by the time you are done, you can actually loop right around back to the start of your run just in time to catch the Mega Crystal cluster repawn, which ordinarily takes 30 seconds.
- Up on the rooftops of Area 18. Not as tightly packed as other rooftop locations, but sufficiently high yield to be worthy of your time.
- All along the exterior wall of Prism Tower. Just run along the perimeter and target the Mega Crystals both on the tower proper and the walkway surrounding it.
- On the exterior walls of the buildings along the back alley behind Restaurant Le Yeah. Might require a little bit more effort than ground-bound Mega Crystals.
Remember, you can only collect up to 999 Mega Shards. To make the most of your time, use as many as you can between each attempt so you don’t lose your progress.
Pink Canari Plush
The Pink Canari Plush is one of five different Canari plush toys available. You can find these toys in the Shop Inventory at the Colorful Screw Exchange within Racine Construction.
For three Colorful Screws, this upgrade boosts the amount of Mega Shards you get when breaking Mega Crystals.
You can use all five Canari Plushes at the same time, and you can even make them stronger to get better benefits. If you fully upgrade a Pink Canari Plush – which takes sixteen Colorful Screws – it will make you collect three times as many Mega Shards from each Mega Crystal.
Ranked Battles Online
You can also earn Mega Shards by battling other players online in ranked matches, but it’s much faster to collect Mega Crystals by exploring Lumiose City and then shattering them.
Those are the best locations to find and farm Mega Shards in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
