Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe’s Talamasca: The Secret Order Can Be Considered a Standalone

I get so overwhelmed trying to find a new show these days! There are just so many options on every streaming service, and it’s not just standalone shows anymore – a lot of them are connected to huge, complicated worlds, which makes choosing even harder.

It’s well known that Hollywood loves franchises – stories they can build on to keep audiences engaged for years. Now, AMC is following suit with a new series premiering on October 26th. Good news for potential viewers: you don’t need to have watched the previous two shows in the series to enjoy this one, according to Nicholas Denton, who confirmed this to Entertainment Weekly.

Following the success of Interview With the Vampire and Mayfair Witches, comes Talamasca: The Secret Order. Talamasca is the organization that links these two shows—and appears throughout Anne Rice’s novels—as it’s responsible for monitoring and controlling all supernatural beings, including vampires, witches, and others.

While the show has ties to the larger universe of Anne Rice’s work, the lead actor assures viewers that it’s accessible for newcomers. Denton described their approach as building a complete, self-contained world, like a fully operational business with all the details – even a payroll room and janitor’s closet. He questioned whether this level of detail would fit within the established tones of Mayfair or Interview with the Vampire, but emphasized their commitment to honoring Anne Rice’s legacy while also welcoming new audiences to explore this rich world.

Mark Johnson, an executive producer for Talamasca: The Secret Order and the person in charge of the entire Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe, hinted that the show will offer something new even for dedicated fans. He explained that while fans might be familiar with the Talamasca organization and its members, this is the first time the story has been told as a complete series, as there hasn’t been a dedicated Talamasca novel before.

Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe Could Continue Growing

You don’t need to watch the older shows to enjoy the new one, but the franchise is still expanding. The creators have mentioned plans for at least three or four additional shows in the future.

Yes, there’s definitely a list of her ideas—there are just so many great ones,” Johnson said. “She was an incredible writer, and even more so when you consider the era she was writing in—her work was truly ahead of its time.

He mentioned they’re interested in adapting three or four more of Rice’s books into films or series. He regularly checks in with AMC, hoping to greenlight another project, and believes they’ll be able to start one soon.

When asked for more information, he said he could reveal what he was enthusiastic about, but admitted it might not be something others would share. He believes a fan of Anne Rice might be able to guess what’s coming next, but he’s choosing to keep those details private for now.

Talamasca: The Secret Order premieres on AMC on Oct. 26 at 9 pm ET/ PT.
