The recent comic book team-up between the Fantastic Four and Gargoyles was a surprising hit. It brought Marvel’s famous heroes together with the stone creatures of Gargoyles, and pitted them against each other’s villains – like the Grey Gargoyle and Diablo from the Fantastic Four, and Demona and David Xanatos from Gargoyles, even bringing them into contact with Tony Stark. What’s really interesting is that this crossover wasn’t just a temporary meeting – it resulted in a Marvel hero permanently joining the Gargoyles, and fans agree it couldn’t have been a more perfect fit.
Please be aware that this discussion contains major spoilers for the Fantastic Four/Gargoyles comic book series. Surprisingly, the Fantastic Four and the Gargoyles don’t fight each other – they team up right away, which is amusingly pointed out by Ben Grimm and Johnny Storm. The story also brings back Isaac Christians, also known as the Gargoyle, from a period of being absent in Marvel comics. He immediately warns Goliath and the other Gargoyles that the villain Diablo plans to use their blood to create a potion for eternal life.
Wow, what a battle! Seeing the heroes – both the Fantastic Four and Goliath’s crew – team up against villains like Diablo, the Grey Gargoyle, Xanatos, and Demona was epic, and they actually won! It’s cool that the Fantastic Four stayed as is, but the real heartwarming moment was watching Goliath officially welcome Isaac Christians – aka the Gargoyle – into the clan. Goliath’s words were perfect: he said Isaac fought like a true gargoyle and offered him a place in their family. And Isaac accepted! It’s funny to think that Isaac used to be a big deal with the Defenders, but honestly, he seems much happier fitting in with this group. As a fan, I’m really hoping this means we’ll be seeing a lot more of the Gargoyle, because he doesn’t show up much in the comics these days, and he’d be a fantastic addition to this show’s team!
The Future of Gargoyle And Gargoyles
Crossovers like this usually happen as separate stories, outside the main timelines of both franchises. However, that might not be true this time. Although writer Greg Weisman hasn’t said if the character Gargoyle will join Goliath’s group permanently, all the characters are now owned by Disney. Weisman has a strong history with Marvel comics, having worked on popular shows like Spectacular Spider-Man and the Spider-Men comic series. If the Gargoyles become a regular part of the Marvel universe, Weisman could continue to develop their stories.
Good news for fans of Gargoyles! Goliath and his team are returning in a comic book crossover with Darkwing Duck in January 2026. It will be exciting to see how the events of their previous adventure might connect to this new story, and whether Isaac Christians will be involved. Here’s a description of the upcoming crossover from Disney:
The Disney Afternoon was a popular programming block in the 1990s that still has a dedicated fanbase today. Among its many shows, Gargoyles and Darkwing Duck were particularly beloved for their superhero themes, featuring powerful characters defending their cities. Now, the original creators of both series are teaming up for a special comic book event! The story begins when the villainous Demona enlists the help of Morgana Macawber in a plot for widespread destruction. This brings Darkwing Duck and Launchpad McQuack flying into Manhattan aboard the Thunderquack, where they soon encounter Goliath and Elisa. Expect a classic hero-versus-hero clash, and plenty more adventures to follow!
