Controversial Long-Running Series Reveals First Look At Final Release

Please be aware that this article contains spoilers for the Vampire Knight manga. Vampire Knight, created by Matsuri Hino, first appeared in Hakusensha’s LaLa magazine in 2004. It was adapted into an anime series in 2008, which ran for two seasons before ending. During a time when anime was largely focused on action series for young boys, many series aimed at young girls were cut short before they could adapt the entire manga. Because vampires were a popular theme in the 2000s, Vampire Knight gained a large following among fans of the genre, with many continuing the story by reading the manga after the anime ended. However, the series is also known for being divisive, with some viewers criticizing the complicated relationships and unexpected plot twists.

Although many found the series to be full of old-fashioned and overly dramatic storylines, it still became quite popular. The original manga finished in 2013, but the author, Hino, quickly released a sequel, Vampire Knight: Memories, set a thousand years after the original story ended. That sequel concluded this August, and now the cover art for the final volume has been revealed by @MangaMoguraRE on X. Following the previous cover which showed Yuki Cross and Zero Kiryuu, the final cover features Yuki and Kaname Kuran. Volume 11 of Vampire Knight: Memories will be available in Japan on December 5th, 2025. Viz Media publishes the English versions, but hasn’t announced a release date yet.

What Is Vampire Knight: Memories About?

I watched as the story concluded with Kaname making the ultimate sacrifice – he threw his heart into the furnace used to forge weapons against vampires, all to finally bring peace between humans and those creatures of the night. He just wanted Yuki to be happy with Zero, free from the troubles of the human world. They had been separated earlier when Yuki discovered she was a pureblood vampire princess, but after Kaname’s act, they spent a millennium together. It was heartbreaking, though, when Zero died protecting Yuki and their son, Ren Kiryuu, from one of those very anti-vampire weapons.

Years later, after Ai Kuran, the daughter of Kaname and Yuki, and Ren have grown up, Yuki makes the ultimate sacrifice to transform Kaname into a human. He is then frozen in time by Hanabusa Aidou. When Kaname awakens as a human, he has completely lost his memories and doesn’t recognize the two vampires who were present when he regained consciousness.

Ai and Ren start filling Kaname in on everything that happened during the thousand years he was asleep, including what became of his friends Yuki and Zero. The story unfolds through flashbacks narrated by the vampire siblings, jumping between different points in time. As Kaname learns more about the past and the people around him, he begins to understand his feelings for Yuki.
