Love Island USA: Cierra Ortega’s Parents Speak Out After Her Removal

Cierra Ortega has exited the villa.

During the July 6 broadcast of Love Island USA, I learned that my fellow islander, the vibrant 25-year-old, had to depart the villa due to a personal matter. This unexpected departure left her partner, Nic Vansteenberghe, without his other half in the villa.

Cierra’s departure was prompted by several unverified posts on the internet where she reportedly used a derogatory term towards Asians. The posts, along with screenshots of supposed direct messages claiming to explain her use of the word in an innocuous manner, sparked an immediate outcry online. Many supporters demanded that producers take Cierra off the show, similar to how Islander Yulissa Escobar was removed earlier this season.

TopMob News has reached out to Love Island USAand Cierrafor comment but has not yet heard back.

Though Cierra hasn’t spoken about the recent controversy, her parents recently posted an appeal asking people to show empathy towards their daughter, stating that this week has been one of the hardest in their lives.

In the spirit of transparency, I want to address the recent developments. I acknowledge the frustration and understand the importance of taking responsibility. However, the discourse escalating on social media currently transcends this issue.

They went on saying, “The distressing remarks, the harsh messages, the assaults on her loved ones including her family, friends, and followers – it’s truly saddening. It’s unwarranted. No one, regardless of their errors, should have to endure such hate.

Although Cierra wasn’t at home yet and they hadn’t spoken about the posts, they felt confident that she would handle the situation with sincerity, development, and elegance.

Though she remains our cherished child, she’s also maturing into a strong woman who will assume responsibility when ready, using her own words. Until that moment arrives, we appeal for understanding, tolerance, and kindness – not only for her, but for all those navigating through similar circumstances.

Following the episode, Cierra’s fellow season seven Islander Belle-A Walker spoke out.

In her Instagram post, she expressed gratitude towards the producers of “Love Island USA” for firmly addressing the intolerance of any form of racism. As a proud Asian American woman, she has personally faced and seen the harsh reality of racist comments. She hopes that this incident will bring attention to the significant problem of anti-Asian hate.

Belle-A mentioned that she had chosen to stop following Cierra on social platforms. She further stated, “I stand against all forms of bigotry and racism. At the same time, I don’t support hate speech. I encourage everyone to think carefully before posting unkind comments towards or about this individual.
