Gunslingin’ Shooter Call of Juarez Rumoured to Be Revived After Over a Decade

When considering first-person shooter franchises, Call of Juarez may not immediately come to mind; however, I have cherished recollections of the gunfighting series created by Techland.

In 2009, the sequel to Call of Juarez titled Bound in Blood was a hidden gem of a Western adventure on the PlayStation 3. Its smaller-scale reboot from 2013, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, managed to surpass it in quality. (It’s worth mentioning that the modern-day spin-off, The Cartel, is often overlooked, but even it wasn’t as poorly received as its reputation might suggest.)

Indeed, it’s been a full dozen years since Gunslinger pioneered the use of untrustworthy narrators in gameplay, and there’s been relatively little news about this franchise since then.

As a hardcore gamer, I’ve been eagerly waiting for any updates from Techland since they acquired the rights to the franchise back from Ubisoft, but so far, it’s just been crickets. However, they did send out a short message to celebrate the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018, which was a nice gesture. But honestly, I’m still holding my breath for more news from them about our beloved franchise.

Meanwhile, according to Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming, who is generally trustworthy, there’s ongoing development for a new installment using the powerful Unreal Engine 5.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been eagerly following the progress of this highly anticipated title. The official website offers intriguing glimpses into its development, but unfortunately, they haven’t shared any specifics about when we might get our hands on it or even an announcement date.

Techland, understandably, is not commenting on the speculation.

At present, our main goal is to unveil Dying Light: The Beast. Following its release, we’ll reveal details on upcoming games at an appropriate moment.

The solo expansion for Dying Light 2 is scheduled for release on August 21st. Therefore, we might gain insights into Techland’s upcoming projects in the latter part of the year, once the game featuring the zombie-slaying protagonist has been released.

Over the past couple of weeks, the Polish studio hasn’t had the smoothest sailing. Last week alone, they decided to scrap two projects, and it is rumored that one of them was a science fiction role-playing game that had been under development for some time.

According to Insider Gaming’s report, it seems that the focus will shift towards Call of Juarez next. It’ll be intriguing to follow the developer’s choice between continuing the narrative of Bound in Blood with its realistic approach or taking a more innovative route like they did with Gunslinger.

Either way, we’re excited to see what it’s got in store.
