Kelly Ripa Proposes “Airport Divorce” to Mark Consuelos

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos need a lot of travel mercies. 

Kelly and Mark, the hosts of Live With Kelly and Mark, jokingly teased each other while talking about their travel experiences and playfully suggesting they might get divorced at an airport.

Kelly shared a surprising idea with her husband on the show, saying, “I think we should consider an ‘airport divorce.’ We clearly have very different approaches to travel, and it’s something we should discuss.”

After Mark jokingly asked if his wife wanted to rush through the airport, she playfully replied that he always wanted to arrive four to sixteen hours early for their flights.

Mark didn’t agree and explained, “That’s not right. I prefer to arrive an hour and a half early.”

Kelly, who shares three children – Michael, 28, Lola, 24, and Joaquim, 22 – with Mark, explained that Mark gets bothered when people recognize them while they’re traveling. Mark responded by asking people not to spread that information, saying he’s always polite and it’s unfair to suggest otherwise.

Kelly immediately explained that he gets frustrated with her, but her husband quickly disagreed, saying, “I’m not irritated with you.”

“I’m irritated with you right now,” he quipped. “For trying to throw me under the bus.”

Kelly remembered when her husband’s TSA PreCheck stopped working while they were traveling. This meant she had to wait in the regular security line with him, even though she had PreCheck herself. Despite her trying to help, he still managed to get annoyed with her, she said.

I remember Kelly explaining how she used to breeze through security because she still had TSA PreCheck. But now that she’s traveling with Mark, it’s a totally different story! She was saying she had to take her shoes off, empty her bag, and basically go through the full screening process. She joked that she felt ‘violated’ in line, while Mark was still annoyed at her for… well, something! It was a funny, relatable moment for anyone who’s traveled with someone who has different security perks.

After resolving their issues, Kelly stated, “We’re absolutely getting divorced at the airport.”

Although the on-air personalities won’t travel together, they still make time for a daily face-to-face conversation after finishing their talk show and heading their separate ways.

Kelly revealed to TopMob News in July that she and her partner secretly enjoy spending evenings together, often sharing a quiet dinner.

This is because of moments like when Mark Consuelos announced he’d be managing the Instagram account for his show Riverdale in 2019, and Kelly playfully responded, “Daddy, I love when you take over.” Kelly believes her kids have actively tried to remove any trace of her and Mark from their social media feeds. She told TopMob News in April 2023 that they’ve likely blocked any account mentioning their names, and generally avoid seeing content related to their parents in any way.

Kelly Clarkson shared some old Halloween photos in 2020, including one of her husband, Mark, and his friend Bruce Bozzi dressed as CHiPs officers. Mark’s outfit was particularly snug, and he jokingly claimed a ‘bulging effect’ was just a shadow. Kelly playfully questioned if he was actually seeing shadows. Later, on the show Daily Pop, host Justin Sylvester teased that it was the reason for their long marriage. Kelly agreed it wasn’t the only reason, but it definitely made the top three!

After nearly 30 years of marriage and raising three children, Kelly revealed the key to her lasting relationship: “Love and intimacy,” she shared on an episode of Live! in 2021.

Kelly became self-conscious about how she looked on FaceTime, so she rigged up her computer on a ladder! Kelly Ripa made a joke about the scandal involving former GMA3 co-hosts Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes, who had a romantic relationship that led to their departure from the show. She said that she and her husband, Mark Consuelos, are now being extra careful to avoid any similar issues, especially now that he’s working with her on Live. In April 2023, on Watch What Happens Live, Kelly playfully stated that she and Mark had “taken a vow of chastity” while working together, because ABC doesn’t want their on-screen talent having affairs. When Lola moved home to finish college, she fell into the habit of entering her parents’ bedroom without knocking, which they wanted to stop. In typical Mark fashion, he jokingly warned Lola about what she might find if she continued to walk in unannounced.

During a January 2023 episode of Live, Mark quipped, “Be warned, Lola Consuelos. ‘Cause this week’s freaky week, isn’t it?” Kelly playfully asked why this week was special, and Mark simply replied with a smile, “It is now.”

The joke stemmed from a conversation Mark had with Lola after she repeatedly entered their room without knocking. He told her, “I don’t want you to take this the wrong way. I’m very excited you’re home, we missed you, you’re the heart of this family, you’re so funny and fantastic… but you gotta knock!”
