A recent IMAX investor presentation didn’t include details about an upcoming Marvel movie. IMAX and Marvel Studios have worked together for years, showing all recent Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films – starting with Iron Man 2 – in IMAX. While Marvel has several big releases planned as it wraps up its Multiverse Saga, one important film was missing from IMAX’s presentation.
During an investor presentation in October 2025, IMAX announced many future films that will be shown in their theaters, including upcoming Marvel movies like Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. However, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to be released before those films, but wasn’t mentioned in the presentation.
A fourth Spider-Man movie is currently being made and is planned to come out on July 31, 2026. However, it wasn’t listed in IMAX’s preview of upcoming 2026 releases, which is unusual. All previous Spider-Man films from Marvel Studios, including the ones starring Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, as well as the animated Spider-Verse movies, have all been shown in IMAX.

There’s a good chance Spider-Man: Brand New Day might be shown in IMAX theaters soon. The presentation materials mention that the list of planned IMAX films isn’t final, suggesting more titles could be added later.
IMAX’s presentation to investors also revealed a number of highly anticipated movies coming in 2026, such as the Star Wars film featuring The Mandalorian & Grogu, the DC film Supergirl, and action-packed titles like Project Hail Mary, Mortal Kombat II, The Odyssey, Street Fighter, Narnia, Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, Resident Evil, and Dune: Part Three.
As a huge Spider-Man fan, I’m really excited about the next installment, officially titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day! It’s the fourth film with Tom Holland as our friendly neighborhood hero, and this time Destin Daniel Cretton – who directed Shang-Chi – is taking the director’s chair. From what I understand, it’s going to kick off a fresh new chapter for Peter Parker, picking up after everything that happened in Spider-Man: No Way Home. It’s currently slated to swing into theaters on July 31, 2026, and Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, and even Jon Bernthal are all set to return, which is fantastic news!
Will Spider-Man: Brand New Day Get an IMAX Release?

Leaving out Spider-Man: Brand New Day from IMAX showings would be unusual, as every Spider-Man movie since Spider-Man 2 has been released in IMAX. Considering this history, and the fact that Spider-Man films consistently perform well in IMAX theaters, it’s probably safe to assume Spider-Man 4 will still be shown in that format.
Interestingly, only one other movie from Sony Pictures, Resident Evil, is currently scheduled for IMAX release in 2026. This might mean Sony (which works with Marvel Studios on the Spider-Man movies) is still deciding on its IMAX releases for next year.
IMAX’s current release schedule for 2026 has a four-week window between The Odyssey and Flowervale Street. Spider-Man: Brand New Day could fit perfectly into that gap, as new IMAX movies usually premiere every two weeks. However, ongoing discussions might be preventing its inclusion in IMAX’s current plans.
A potential challenge for the IMAX release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day is its close proximity to the release of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, also starring Tom Holland. Nolan has a strong relationship with IMAX, and The Odyssey is unique because it was filmed entirely with IMAX cameras. This means it’s likely to be the preferred film for IMAX showings for a considerable time.
Universal and Sony Pictures are likely still discussing with IMAX how to share theater screens between their new movies, which could be why the IMAX release date for Spider-Man: Brand New Day hasn’t been announced yet.
