It’s a strange situation: the PS5 Pro, which is more powerful than the standard PS5, is actually performing worse with some new games. This seems to be happening mostly with games made by companies other than Sony, as developers are still learning how to fully utilize the Pro’s extra capabilities. Sadly, this issue is affecting another major game released at the end of October.
As a big fan, I was really excited to try The Outer Worlds 2 on the PS5 Pro, but Digital Foundry’s report is pretty concerning. While the game generally runs at a steady framerate, the upscaling tech on the Pro seems to be causing some weird visual glitches, especially with the lighting. It’s like there’s noise around objects that just shouldn’t be there. Apparently, it actually looks worse than it does on the regular PS5, and even the Xbox Series X performs better! It’s a shame, because it sounds like the PS5 Pro is actually the least ideal way to play the game, which is really disappointing.
PS5 Pro Continues to Have Big Problems
It might be surprising considering the PS5 Pro’s $750 price, but high-end PlayStation hardware has repeatedly had trouble running certain games smoothly. In just the last year, titles like Silent Hill f, Silent Hill 2, Alan Wake 2, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater all launched with performance issues on the PS5 Pro. The main problem appears to be developers struggling to optimize games for the system’s PSSR technology.
Over time, the issues some players are experiencing with games on the PS5 Pro should improve. Developers will become more familiar with the system and its technology, leading to better game performance. Sony plans to release a PS5 Pro update in 2026 that could resolve many of these problems. If you’re thinking about buying a PS5 Pro, it might be best to wait until then.
